I think there's a good chance this bombs at the box office. I mean, Blade Runner 2049 didn't do well financially, somehow. I hope it doesn't but there's definitely a chance. I wouldn't say it's "guaranteed" to bomb either though.
I feel like this will definitely need to be a word of mouth type movie to get the more "on-the-fence" sci-fi people in the seats. My wife isn't a big sci-fi/space fan, and she loved 2049. We shall see
I think they'll have to put a lot of weight in marketing behind all the stars/cast in this film, which I think could go a long way to ensuring it's a financially successful film. Would be cool to maybe get a teaser during the Super Bowl
I think this will do just fine. I don’t expect it to be a huge box office hit but I’d be super shocked if it bombs
I think what made 2049 flop is a few elements: 1) There's a lot of people out there who actually haven't seen the original and thus didn't feel the need to see the new one because of that 2) As much as I adore 2049, it's slow. Like, insanely slow when it comes to mainstream studio tentpoles. Dune has potential to be a hit due to its stellar cast and its optimal Christmas opening with no Star Wars or Avatar in sight. It's also an entry point for new audiences, and will most likely move quicker with more action than 2049 had
So hyped for this movie, more than any for me personally since Force Awakens. I reallyyyyy hope we get a teaser during the Super Bowl. I can't think of a better time to debut it.
Somebody put a lot of time and effort in creating that promotional design. Please stop duncing on them.
Starting the book today. I tried to read it many in years ago, probably in junior high, and only got about halfway through, but I’m hoping I like it a lot more this time.
