Denis said he's grateful it worked out the way it did, as he was exhausted at the end of the filming process for the first one; he had to run two different filming units, something he hasn't done before on a film, as there was so much work to do in the time they had
well im sure they couldve started producing and or filming part 2 while part 1 was in post. theres usually a bit of dead time before release.
After he does Dune 2 I hope he does something smaller like Enemy or Prisoners before maybe doing Messiah
Yep. And said they wouldn't give him the money after Blade Runner, but he's grateful it worked out this way. I can't imagine complaining about this, four days ago we were worried we'd even get it lol.
Would not be surprised if they have most/all of the script basically ready with all the COVID delay. I’d imagine it start’s shooting, what, next summer?
I'm sure the crew is pretty prepared to ramp up production again quickly. Excited this is happening, go Denis!
Considering the original plan was to shoot 1 and 2 back-to-back, I wouldn't be surprised if Denis had part 2 already fully scripted
I feel pretty comfortable saying cinematography, score, sound, visual effects and production design are all but locked up already.
Unlikely. The academy is famously wary of nominating genre pieces like this. Plus, with how many indies, feel good films, and big studio projects like House of Gucci & West Side Story are getting attention right now, I doubt there'll be space in BP. But yeah - all the technical categories are on lock, and I can't imagine it not winning them.
I think the only fantasy film to ever win best picture was Return of the King. Not sure how the track record for sci-fi films.
