I want to know how on earth Denis will film the sandworm-riding scenes, as in how he'll balance using practical effects with using CGI. Maybe construct a road, or train track, in the desert, and then build a top-half realistic prop of a sandworm, and construct the internals to make the worm move up and down and in different directions, with green/blue screens on the bottom for the camera looking down shots, while allowing the actors to stand on top of the prop for filming
I don't know about that one, personally. I also think Bill Skarsgard would be a fun choice to play the Baron's other nephew just because of him being Stellan's son IRL.
starting next year hollywood will mandate that adam driver shall be cast in ever single movie ever from now on
It felt like he was just one of those characters Denis didn't have time to include/flesh out enough to make it worth including him. From what I remember he's pretty integral to the 2nd half, so writing him out completely doesn't seem like something Denis would do
Feyd is crucial to Baron’s overall plan for Arrakis (which I guess hasn’t even been explained yet, but again if they’re putting off Feyd then it makes sense), so I would assume so. He had always planned on having Rabban, a stupid ruthless dictator, replaced with the more cunning Feyd who would be smart enough to use a lighter touch and be treated as a sympathetic liberatory figure while still being just as conniving as the Baron himself He’s literally only in one chapter in the first half of the book, so unless Denis wanted to flesh him out way more, it makes much more sense to wait to include him
I think there's no way Feyd isn't in the second one. He's barely in the first 65% of the book in a meaningful way, it made sense to not focus on him yet. Given how much expansion on the source material Part 2 would likely need to do in order to hit a lengthy run time, I imagine we're going to get a lot of Feyd development in the sequel if it happens.
why are we discussing casting, it's clear they're just gonna hire Sting to play Feyd again. speedo included
All I know is, if there are any significant Fremen characters left to cast, they need to get some MENA actors in there. (And maybe also get some MENA eyes behind the scenes, too?)
Irulan is tough because she's such a thankless role. Hopefully Denis expands her role in the second one as well so she isn't just a prop.
Speaking of worms, the protagonist of the fourth book, God Emperor of Dune, is a 3,000-year-old human-sandworm hybrid who rules the galaxy with an iron fist. Hypothetically, in the best-case scenario — in which Dune becomes a cinematic sensation and they let you do the whole series — do you make the human-sandworm hybrid practical effects, or do you use CGI? That’s a tricky question. I go one movie at a time. Making the first one took all my stamina, my energy, and my creativity. And my dream would be to make a Dune part one and two. And maybe there’s another possibility to make Dune Messiah, because I think that Messiah could be a fantastic movie. That’s already a lot of work, so I don’t allow myself to think further than that. But yeah, just the thought of designing that creature is daunting. But you know what? If ever I have to face that challenge, it means that life is fantastic.
