And to think we're like 95% certain to get a sequel now, with most likely an even bigger budget. So dope

Idk why but the shot of the hot air balloon looking ship dropping its ropes to carry the spice miner out to the desert just floored me. On a purely visual level this is up there with District 9 in terms of grounded realism. Its like Denis took his camera to a planet and just filmed it.

Story-wise, I think it sticks the landing for the most part. I havent read the book so there wasnt as much ~political intrigue~ as I thought there would be, but the relationship between Paul and Lady Jessica really carried things and I wanted more of them as the movie was wrapping up.

I found it boring but a vibe. I have not read the books but I think the source material is just too dense to adapt and make it a cool sci-fi adventure.

I dont think it’s the best critique tbh, but it does cover some of my thoughts regarding its themes of anti-colonialism

Really loved this but wish they had included some build up to Leto's death like they do in the book. You know something bad will happen in the film but you didn't really get the sense of impending doom here. I also missed the motivation of why Dr Yueh did what he did. Maybe they should have had a scene with the explanation of imperial conditioning so the betrayal felt more effective. I understand that they probably did this to be more cinematic but Yueh is such a tragic character in the book, it's much less effective in the film due to him only being in like 3 scenes before the betrayal.

For anyone who's read all the books... is the goal adapting the entire series? I've heard the first six are the ones that matter, but if the story continues beyond that, how? And even if the first six can work as a complete story, does that mean there will be at least twelve movies?

Only book 1 but they may bring bits and pieces in from other books in part two of the film. The Bene Gesserit tv show will probably take parts from these other books if that still gets made.

After a little more time with this, I think my main complaint is the music completely drowning out some of the dialogue

  13. I didn't notice that happening at all I don't think

Man, if they do in fact do more books in the series, people are in for a trip, especially seeing Paul’s son morphed into a human/worm hybrid

I had to double my volume to hear the dialogue at times. Definitely noticed this, too.

Subs were definitely helpful for me when watching. Some of the accents didn't help but I also have a real hard time with understanding quiet/whispery dialogue in movies due to where it sits in the audio mix. No different here. It will probably improve when Im seeing this in an actual theater in a few days rather than my doo doo set up at home. I'm just impatient and was dying to watch asap.

This is probably the best looking movie I've seen in a while too so cant wait to see this on a big ass screen. The tech, ship and architecture design is amazing. Seeing the massive ship that looked like the Leviathan from Destiny 2 was a holy shit moment for me too with the way they shot it. The massive scaling of things hits so hard in this if that makes sense.

    Leto Atreides II

"Leto Atreides II, (10205 AG - 13724 AG) also known as the God-Emperor, was the second son of Paul Atreides and his Fremen concubine Chani Kynes, daughter of Liet Kynes. He was born just after his twin sister Ghanima. After the death of his aunt, the regent Alia Atreides, Leto II proclaimed himself Emperor of the Atreides Empire, and ruled for approximately 3,500 standard years, guiding humankind with his iron fist towards survival. He was named after the DukeLeto Atreides, his paternal grandfather, and Leto Atreides II the Elder, his older brother, who was murdered in infancy."
