Yes they are And I also kind of hate how like 90% of the discourse I've seen for this movie is if it's going to do well enough to get a sequel
Unfortunately that's what's going to happen when there's a good chance the sequel won't get made and fans of both Dune and Denis don't want the director's vision for the entirety of this story to remain unfinished forever.
I’m listening to the audiobook right now and I swear the voice actor for Duke Leto changes on a chapter by chapter basis.
I wanted to listen to the audiobook, but I hear they skip parts of the book for some reason? Honestly I just want to listen to know how to pronounce names. I get to distracted when reading the book on whether or not what I interpret is correct.
Where do you hear they skip parts? As far as I know the main version on Audible covers the entire story. Fascinating though to hear how they interpret/say the various names
Reading that negative review, it seems his main gripe was that he wanted story that really went into the weeds, into the deep philosophy of the story and the challenges the characters face, but didn't get it, so knocked down it's grade. Though, reading that first review, this seems like the likely reasoning from Denis - "Perhaps reluctant to alienate the novices in the audience, Villeneuve has ironed out many of the novel’s convolutions, to the likely benefit of comprehension but at the expense of some rich, imaginative excess." I can see why he went this route though, as it'll help the wider public understand the story more easily, and yet slightly disappoint the Dune diehards that wanted something deeper.
Still think this should have been a giant HBO Max series instead, which would have allowed them to fully flesh out in more detail the deeper elements and themes of the book
