Just finished Dune and what a great book. Are the other Dune books worth reading? I own them all (came in a set) but wonder if i should take a break and read some other things or if they are worth just diving right into them.
I haven’t read them but general consensus is to read all the ones written by Frank, not his son. Messiah is a direct continuation and is much much shorter
Dune Messiah is super different and pretty short In comparison, it is definitely worth reading if you enjoyed Dune.
Dune is the only essential one that I genuinely consider to be a classic work, but the other five Frank Herbert Dune books are solid as well. They are all a step down from the first book but I like them all and have read them several times. I've never read any of the other books written by his son and the other author, or any other Dune related writings, but the Sega Genesis game Dune The Battle for Arrakis was fun.
I’m 230 some pages into the book for the first time and it’s just.... so fucking good. The characters are so detailed, the world building is insane, the turns of phrase and general writing style are incredible. There hasn’t even been much action and I’m still completely engrossed
There’s a lot of action but it’s all implied. I had to reread several passages to get the gist of what happened. Really really cool
Finally finished the book, what an incredible ride. Feels like it wrapped itself up rather abruptly but maybe that's what Messiah is for?
This is a great interview; cool to see him describe his process, people he admires, how he approached Dune, his love of cinema, etc.
