I'm encouraged that you like the later books because they looks absolutely batshit crazy to me. Especially book 4.

Oh I can't say I've read the other books in the series; I've just read the summaries on Wikipedia and watched those Youtube videos. I agree though, they do get pretty batshit crazy, or as Denis Villeneuve would say, they get pretty psychedelic, haha. Almost impossible to film I think. I doubt Denis would want to take the time to film the rest of the books (outside of Messiah), as they just get stranger and stranger, which makes them less and less palatable to mainstream audiences.

I haven't read the books in years, but I did read all 6 of Frank Herbert's Dune books when I was younger, a few times all the way through. I don't remember liking any of the other 5 as much as the first book, but I do think books 2-6 are all very good and it's a great series. It's just that the first book to me is an absolute classic work of fiction, and I don't think any of the other books reach that height, but it's still an awesome series. And it does get pretty weird haha. I sampled the books written by his son and the other author but they didn't even feel like the same universe to me and honestly read to me like fan fiction. The magic just wasn't there for me with them.

I just finished Children of Dune and it was kind of a slog until the end so I am on the fence about doing God Emperor of Dune. I’ve heard some say it’s way better but then others that say it just gets more philosophical/tough to follow. I am reading The Name Of The Wind right now to cleanse my palate after dune Messiah and Children of dune back to back.

Hiya! Just finished up reading all six Frank Herbert Dune books a few weeks ago (my friend and I have been doing a recap podcast for the last 1.5 years lol) so I would LOVE to talk with ya'll about these books. I am absolutely obsessed right now and deeply immersed in the Dune universe.
