the flop narrative makes even less sense from a quality stand point when you think about it like this: radical optimism has a good amount of solid tracks with a few duds which was pretty much the expectations you had for pop albums before (radical) poptimism took over last decade and everyone started expecting these mammoth artistic statements akin to a Beyoncé album or an Adele album or else you’re a flop. Like I think peoples expectations are wayyyyy too high sometimes.
It’s like how the last Adele album was a “flop” despite selling like 700,000 copies in the first week.
any given store I go to that sells vinyl has dozens of copies it’s disgusting that’s all going to be in a landfill one day
The obsession with "eras" goes hand in hand with this too. If there's not a complete and total reinvention every album then people are like "oh it's just more of the same". But sometimes there's value in revisiting a similar sound and seeing what else you can mine out of it, or how you can update it a bit so that it sounds fresh but still scratches the same itch (which I would argue is the case with this album).
Every time I see the “Training Season” video, I think the LANY guy might have one of the biggest bag fumbles of all time.
Dua Lipa Setlist at Waldbühne, Berlin First show since the album came out. Wish she played more from it
Down to no 81 in its sixth week, charting below albums such as The Best of Nickelback, the first Hozier record, and Kanye’s Graduation. Bizarre how no North American dates have been announced still.
