What a harrowing experience for Larry Fitzmaurice having to delete TWO tweets. I really hope he gets through it ok
The album isn’t a flop, it’s performing under expectations but it’s fine. I’m sure the label would love for it to be doing better though. It’s still a good album and hopefully she gets a smash out of this era. If not, she’ll adjust and probably release new music quicker than before (which was understandable due to Covid)
Conversations about music sales and chart performance are kinda boring but did she not just debut at #1 in the US? Reading that dude’s tweet made me look up sales numbers thinking she came in at like #20 lol
What are the final numbers? I saw 40k somewhere but not sure if it’s accurate since it was projected for 60-65
I thought I saw somewhere in the 40k’s but idk. I don’t care how much she sells, I’m just constantly annoyed by goofy music Twitter personalities who show up in my for you tab, whose whole thing is “how can I express a benign music opinion in the most smug and attention-starved way”
I mean it’s really dumb when people who typically write about and cover underground music that is unconcerned with moving units pop out of the woodwork to disparage a pop star for only selling tens of thousands of records. Like it’s so catty.
Well yeah behind double albums. I think it's unfair to only look at the numbers. It's a short album where that doesn't get rewarded. I've listened to this album just as many times as the full TTPD but TS will chart better from my numbers because it's so bloated.
I’ve listened to this three times as much as I’ve listened to TTPD because I’ve listened to this three times
I don't think I made it all the way through TTPD, def some songs where I fast forwarded to see where the song was going because I was already an hour and a half in
i can't put into words how much i fucking hate music twitter, and then i saw these tweets and realized words are not enough.
Listen I know people can post whatever they want on their own Twitter because it is their own but...not every opinion you have needs to be put out into the world lol
Needs to be noted that Dua Lipa's three albums contain 34 songs across their standard editions, which is two songs fewer than that Morgan Wallen album.
I love being involved in the discourse around albums with y'all here, but especially for pop, I just cannot care what the discourse is on a national level.
It is very difficult to handle when most of the music I listen to weekly won't sniff one week's sales of these "flops!" in their entire lifetime. I find the navel gazing and discussion so obnoxious. The "Houdini" music video has 118,921,201 views. That's more views than Blink-182's "Whats My Age Again" ... put online in 2009. Like, I'm sorry, I can't get on board with the ~~discourse~~ with this reality. I just ... I can't do it!
How many artists that we talk about on this site would have their lives entirely changed by a sales week like that? lol
I just hate the way narratives take hold. Like people just want this album to be a flop, whether that's the reality or not. And I really really hate when that narrative takes hold before even hearing the music (or after just hearing one single). Anyway, I just don't get what's not to love about this album.
I saw in the replies larry was like “I knew she’d flop even before Houdini” ok cool bro you’re just a hater no one’s impressed lol
As a card holder of the "I never understood that dude being popular and famous" club, I am here for it.
I think about that Tik Tock of the girl singing Houdini at Houdini's grave like once a week, so in no way could this album ever be considered a flop.
