Future Nostalgia dropping as COVID took over the world and still making you want to dance and sing along through the darkness can’t be understated. Powerhouse pop record for a time that didn’t feel anything like that. That album (and Folklore, for entirely different reasons) are 2020 for me. This one will be a summer playlist killer and I love it. It doesn’t have to be FN. It just has to be really fun. And it is.
Yeah, this is fine. Something to throw on in the summer. Nothing particularly outstanding, just solid and I’ll take that after duds like JT and not my favorite stuff from Kacey and Taylor. Also, did not know Dua had the pipes she shows off in “Falling Forever.”
Falling Forever is clear and away the best song on here for me. Funny that it’s the most divisive in reactions in the thread.
In retrospect, I don’t know why we expected the Dua Lipa album to have anything more than a set of fun songs. There are unfortunately no world conquering jams on here, but “These Walls” and “Illusion” and “Happy For You” and “Anything For Love” all deserve playlist slots.
Happy for You is my favorite on here by a lot, but this is really good and fun - probably will become my go to summer pop record, similar to JB’s The Album last year
"Falling Forever" and "Happy for You" are my favourites at the moment but I think the whole album is really good honestly and just gets more fun each time I listen.
Yeah this whole thing goes. Still partial to Illusion but These Walls and French Exit are creeping up. Really enjoy the whole album tho
Lately it seems every record in pop has become so closely tied to the pop stars personal lives (Ariana and the divorce, Taylor/Travis/Joe/Matty, Billie coming out, etc. These stories help build buzz, whether that’s a good or bad thing is tbd but it hurts Dua that she’s not part of that. I prefer the straight forward pop songs she does but for pop culture purposes it seems everyone wants those autobiographical tracks now.
I’m going to engage because that user is right. One of the biggest criticisms of Dua is that she is boring and has a boring personal life or doesn’t share much of her life like Taylor/Ariana/Billie/Olivia. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but it is something that she doesn’t have that for better or worse, isn’t helping her. (I think it’s for the better because no one has to over share if they don’t want to) and I’m not going to say she’s flopping this era but her streaming numbers ARE not great this era and it may be because people are more drawn to when artists are releasing songs about their personal lives. Like a lot of people tuned in to TTPG to hear about Joe (and Matty)
