Diving in now. Dua Lipa is the best mainstream pop artist imo and it’s not particularly close either.
I haven’t read a pitchfork review in awhile, but skimmed this one. Do they usually insult other artists in their reviews as a way to get their point across?
This is extremely fun and solid. And thank the Lord above it is only 11 songs and under 40 minutes. Phew.
This really does feel like a continuation of Tame Impala’s Slow Rush…def not a bad thing. Glad she made a cohesive album that has a solid aesthetic. This and FN have really established her as a album artist.
Maybe because I'm an old man but I also find it refreshing that she still maintains a private life which means that we can enjoy the music and not have an annoying stan base dissecting every single lyric and who it might be about.
I was listening to a different album released today and now on a work call, but can't wait to listen, especially if "The Slow Rush Pt. 2" is even slightly true.
what this record reminds me of most is the last two kylie minogue records: fine, pleasant, dancey, well produced, but just,,,,,,I need more, I expected more, after the huge jump that Future Nostalgia was for her. This just feels extremely SAFE and almost phoned in, not going to move the needle for her AT ALL, aside more now there are more dua lipa songs. I think the P4k comparison to Rina Sawayama's Hold The Girl is also apt, both records feel like undercooked holdovers from the previous album lacking direction of their own.
