Might be an unpopular opinion, but I would love a straightforward The 1975. I couldn't get into NOACF because it felt so bloated. I loved a lot of the songs, but also felt like they might falling up their own ass.
I like notes but I rarely return to it. would definitely like a more straightforward pop rock version of them
can’t relate, I’m for sure in the “the more the merrier” camp with The 1975. they’re at their best when they’re unwieldy to me. it’s a feature not a bug, etc
I am a huge fan of them keeping their musical boundaries wide, spanning multiple sounds, experimenting, doing weird shit, and everything else. BUT, within that, they should learn to edit a bit more. Not everything needs to make the album.
I’ve said it before, but i’d love a 10 track, no instrumentals release from them after the exhausting (in a good way) Notes.
the instrumentals add to the long-term replay-ability of their records for me. they’re the tracks that grow on me most and reveal more of themselves to me over time and imo that’s a treat to have for records I end up playing the absolute shit out of. particularly the stuff on ILIWYS. my biggest complaint about the s/t actually is that the instrumentals are so condensed they’re more like brief interludes but they don’t really help the flow of the album for me so they don’t end up making much of an impression. I’m very glad they expanded upon that aspect for ILIWYS and Notes. ABIIOR and s/t feel like them at their most condensed, and they’re both my least favorite releases by the band. anyway, it’s always funny to me that maybe the most common complaint with this band is that they should cut some tracks and condense their records but I guarantee everyone has a different idea of what songs to cut. cut this song or that song and you’re cutting some people’s most beloved tracks and giving them (in their eyes) a lesser record.
I actually think they should go full on post rock with the next album. a full record of the title track of iliwys. this is 100% serious
I have no problem, at all, with instrumental music or ambient leaning music. I just don't think the band is very good at it.
If this is real, very curious. If they’re Emo tinged math rock, those Midwestern emo tracks they were talking about during the writing of Notes, this could be interesting. Would be great to hear a greater Hahn presence
It seems like they’ve been kinda hinting about this for quite awhile, I think, right? I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s been done for awhile and they surprise drop it.
