listened to their first 7 albums this week (and jason’s first, which is basically a DBT album). good band imo.
Yeah and he ebbs and flows. His output was really dwindling in the early 2010s like it has been recently as Big To Do and Go Go were really Hood/Shonna heavy. But then he came back ripping and then went totally 50/50 with Patterson on English Oceans and American Band
fuck that's awful. so glad they went back to his art for the cover of the last two since there won't be another
nah, newly recorded versions of two tracks. and then added in a few b-sides from other comps and re-ordered a few tracks. also it got best new reissue, so they aren't pretending it's a new album
I’m a sicko so I wish we’d gotten two versions, one with all re-recorded vocals by all three vocalists, and one with the OG recordings just with the other tracks mixed in and everything remastered But I’ll take this!!
Dirty South is my favorite right now but it’s been Decoration Day before and it could be that one again. After those two I’d go Brighter Than Creation’s Dark, then SRO, then American Band, Big To Do, and Pizza Deliverance are all about the same for me. After that I like English Oceans, Go Go Boots, and Blessing equally well, then the last three, then well…Gangstabilly is what it is haha. Living Bubba remains one of Pattersons all time best songs though.
big to do and american band are the two i listen to the most. the first, like, 7 tracks of big to do are maybe the best this band has ever been. i don’t love the rest of the record, except for after the scene dies and flying wallendas, which are incredible.
Birthday Boy is at worst a top 3 Cooley song (I want to say it’s his best but I can’t let go of Zip City and Devil). Girls Who Smoke would be the best Hood song on that record if they’d left it on (it’s on the vinyl tho)
Go-Go Boots is spotty but ends so strong with Pulaski and Mercy Buckets. The cover of Everybody Needs Love is great too. Would definitely put it above their last three.
