I mean it's a good album. But none of it is groundbreaking, and none of it ranks among his best in their respective styles. So why should I ever bother listening to all 3 hours of this again?
Lol its an hour** of good music. Most artists in this genre never break new ground and drake does his own style pretty damn well on most of the songs. If you dont wanna listen to it then dont but dont make it seem like a burden to put on
The only track that's stood out to me so far is Weston Road Flow. More to the point, how has nobody commented on the chrysler line in the opener? It's so bad, took me right out of the album.
I've never fallen in love with a Drake project on first listen, they're almost always growers. I thought Take Care was boring the first time I listened to it but now it's one of my hip-hop favorite projects of the decade. That being said, this just seems like a lesser version of TC. It's definitely good (the production, atmosphere, and overall cohesiveness are fantastic), it already started growing on me in the car today, but like someone else said, it just seems like Drake is running out of stuff to say. If Drake wanted to cement himself as a legend, which he clearly does, this should have been his classic. It's the perfect time for him. For the time being, I'd put both Take Care and Nothing Was the Same above this. Hopefully I grow to love it like I did with Take Care. On a side note, holy fuck scalpers completely massacred his DC shows this morning. I set my alarm and was on the page as soon as the clock turned to 10 and both of them were already completely sold out. At a fucking arena show. Hopefully Stubhub has some reasonable deals as the shows grow closer but damn that was disappointing.
i had to use a combination of two different pre-sale codes to get tix for vancouver. i dont even know how it worked.
Five listens later, I still think it's his weakest release. Some great songs with a lot of filler. Not really worth the hype.
Haven't been keeping up with this thread - whats the general feeling on this version of Controlla? I kinda hate it
That sample in "Child's Play" is a real ear worm. Found myself humming it today at work of all places. "She rode that..."
Drake never grasped that narcissism, in art, works best with perspective. Also, half of the songs are negging in music form. 4/10
I'm having a hard time getting into this record. Sonically I'm with it but lyrically I find a lot of it off-putting. There hasn't seemed to be a unification of the production and lyrics that I loved on Take Care and NWTS.
I really like most of this, but as a cohesive piece I don't think it really comes together. It does seem like he is running out of things to say.
I've been wondering if more of us would've liked this way more had we not already had three very ambitious releases from Rihanna, Kanye, and Beyonce push the envelope and knock it out of the park for the year already. Let alone solid releases from Future and Thugger.
Enjoy this a lot, it's not nearly as substantive as Take Care but the production is fucking lush. Not really any tracks I'd throw away either.
