This nailed it for me. Also agree that Take Care is his best. And I'm also of the Thank Me Later is good crowd.
I agree Take Care is his best, but did you not get the sense that he intended Views to surpass it as his defining statement? Maybe I built it up too much in anticipation myself and that's coloring my reaction to it.
I guess so, but artists always do that. In interviews for their new albums, they'll always say "oh yeah, this my best work to date by far." I've never seen anyone say "well it's not as good as my last album, but you should still buy it."
He did? haha my bad. I guess Drake hyping this album up has kinda backfired then. I don't think Views is even close to being as good as Take Care. I like Views, but I'm not sure I would call it great. It's early days though, maybe it'll grow on me.
I'm really loving the album honestly. Last night my first listen was with friends as we were doing other stuff, so I wasn't really focused on it, but now that I listened more carefully it's great.
Yeah that's true. It felt like a bit more than normal new album talk to me though. With like the billboards and how much time he spent building it up. I probably overhyped it in my own head but it felt to me like this was supposed to be his moment and it just falls a little flat on first listen. Oh well, gonna spin it a couple more times today and see if it grows on me.
agree with @Chaplain Tappman about there seemingly being a lot of whack lines on this A tiny yet potentially pervasive thought is creeping into my head whispering does Drake have anything else interesting left to say? And even if he doesn't it may not matter a ton because his team/collabs are always coming with the lush production still think I'm going to end up liking this a lot overall
I dunno, outside of Hotline Bling, One Dance, and Too Good, I'm not really feeling this. Feels bloated and listless.
so many mixed reviews here. i'm really into this. i love this vibey RnB drake. Really diggin Redemption and Too Good
All I need are albums from Gambino and Chance (soon hopefully?) and my top 5 will all have dropped albums this year.
I'm so into One Dance, haha. Can't believe I didn't like it when I first heard it. Same goes for Hotline Bling though to be fair.
I'm into a lot of this, can't echo a lot of the complaints, but this is the kinda stuff I like from Drake, always founder banger-drake to be whatever.
Always felt that Drake sounded insincere or fake with his bangers. This album is more in line with who he really is-- at least in my opinion
My criticism of this record is that it's obviously a little to long, and his subject matter more so that his lyricism has stagnated. His flow and the album's production are both on a master class level. I guess if I was being picky I'd say the song writing/crafting is just a bit subpar compared to what we're used to from him. That also might be my unfamiliarity with the music speaking.
