I actually haven't had the desire to come back to this at all, but maybe I'll try again later today just to see what I think of it a week later.
Off the top.... Nice For What 0 to 100/The Catch Up Lord Knows Furthest Thing Shot For Me Too Much Look What You’ve Done Worst Behavior Marvin’s Room Hold On, We’re Going Home He’s got plenty of great songs, The Motto isn’t one of them. He’s got plenty of bad songs, Glow isn’t one of them.
Underground Kings has always been one of my favorites. I can get down with most of that ranking, but having Shut It Down in the bottom 20 is a slap in my face. Even Thank Me Now and Duppy Freestyle in that bottom group is bizarre. They really think there are 65 Drake songs that are worse than I'm Upset? That makes me.....upset.
So a bunch of mix changes which means the album wasn’t even done when it was released? I’m so confused about how this happens. Like as a mix engineer I know you never feel like your mix is finished but once you send it off for the album to be released you’re done
Finally got around to this in the middle of a 6-hour plane flight. Definitely not the most focused listening experience, was purposefully falling in and out of sleep, and wasn't looking at track names..... but, these are my thoughts just for kicks - Disc 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>> Disc 1 - Album starts with too much Drake-by-the-numbers - Early favorites other than Nice and God's are "Sandra's Rose" "Summer Games" "Ratchet Happy Birthday" "Don't Matter To Me" and "March 14." - I thought I was listening to a Weeknd feature until I remembered there is a Michael Jackson sample - I think there are a lot of merits to releasing 25 track albums, knowing that die hards will listen to all of it and casuals will be picking out singles. It doesn't make for as cohesive of an album, but rather a collection of tracks - There is easily a great 12-track album in here
It's weird to me that Drake essentially marketed More Life as a disparate collection of tracks and it still manages to be a way more cohesive listening experience than this album
The accent gotta go for me to take it serious. Also Drake gonna go after the easy target the whole time or....???
I actually really fuck with that, never heard him flow like that before He needs to stop dissing Kanye while he avoids Push though
My top 10 would probably be something like... Marvin's Room Shut It Down Take Care 0 To 100/The Catch Up Hold On, We're Going Home Over My Dead Body The Motion Energy Dreams Money Can Buy Too Much Best I Ever Had Honorable Mention for Best Feature: Come and See Me (PartyNextDoor)
I can't remember if I posted this or not but like I was listening to local radio and it was Friday night dance mix. They managed to turn Nice For What which is a pretty ok record to jam/dance to into this remix that is full on electronic and I was like NOOOOOO.
