Drake has had plenty of memorable/great songs over the last decade: “Nokia”, “Somebody Loves Me”, “Die Trying”, “Greedy”, “Red Button”, “First Person Shooter”, “Stories About My Brother”, “8AM in Charlotte”, “Middle of the Ocean”, “Hours In Silence”, “I Guess It’s Fuck Me”, “Liability”, “Jimmy Cooks”, “Fair Trade”, “Champagne Poetry”, “Wants and Needs”, “What’s Next”, “Chicago Freestyle”, “Not You Too”, “Money In The Grave”, etc etc. I could keep going.
You should throw them into a playlist and check them out! Drake never stopped making great songs, even if there are a few duds/misses on his more bloated albums (CLB, FATD)…
I like a bunch of Drake songs that came out in the last decade but it’s the other 3000 filler tracks on those albums that are just huge waste of time for me.
I honestly don’t think there’s that much filler on his recent albums. On CLB, tracks 2-5 & 7 are meh/bad and the rest of the album ranges from good to great. Same with FATD, tracks 2, 3, 5, 15 & 19 are duds but I love the rest of the album. It has some of Drake’s best r&b cuts (“Polar Opposites”, “Tried Our Best”, “Bahamas Promises”).
Not trying to convince anyone of anything, just sharing my perspective! I still massively enjoy Drake’s music.
I’m certainly not as heavy on later drake as early drake but he def has great music hidden in those records. I am a honestly nevermind truther. So underrated
I can't speak on CLB and FATD since I never listened to their full albums, only heard singles that I thought were bad, after Views and Scorpion were not very good so I stopped listening to full albums of his. However Honestly Nevermind is the exception, I had to listen to it to see if it was as bad as it seemed like it was going to be, and it certainly was. I'm sorry but that is a genuinely awful album lol
Yeah I have historically been a huge Drake fan, Take Care is like a seminal album to me but there is no question the last several albums have had a lot of subpar shit on them I would take the stance though that they all have a handful of great songs, some more than others. He's definitely still got it in him. Push Ups and Family matters were both excellent, some of the singles that have came out since are good, and I really like about half of SSS4U, but again the other half is bad. All of which is to say I have some hope this album is a return to form with a little extra post-beef motivation, and the longest gap between solo albums since Scorpion hopefully a little more curation involved
I’m open to being surprised, I just don’t have high expectations. I personally think his last decade of work has mostly been very inconsistent but still has some gems, if you’re excited I’m not trying to put a damper on it!
