Legendary Super Saiyan Daizenshuu 6 states that Broly is the latest of the Legendary Super Saiyans who appear every thousand years. Also, the legend of the Super Saiyan is mentioned and Broly is believed to be the Legendary Super Saiyan in Shin Budokai, with Goku saying "The Legendary Super Saiyan, a powerful warrior that appears every 1,000 years." However, this form does not exist in the original manga, where the regular Super Saiyan form is the Super Saiyan of legend.
I'm guessing this thread is primarily with people viewing the subs of Super? Because I've been waiting/just now watching the dubs because I honestly can't deal with Goku's OG Japanese voice.
I think the canon is pretty standard when you view it through the lens of the original manga. The movies, certain arcs of the anime, and GT are easily viewed as non-canon. That's why I don't like the idea of a "Legendary Super Saiyan" being introduced into the Dragon Ball Super manga.
Honest question, though: has anyone except for fans mentioned "Legendary Super Saiyan" at all? I haven't seen a direct translation of the trailer, and Trunks achieved the same SS form in the Black arc without it being referred to as such. Maybe I missed it tho
The honest answer is no. There hasn't been anything explicitly confirming "Legendary Super Saiyan" other than the image we see in the trailer. Based on the size and coloring of the character, though, I think fans are assuming correctly. Trunks' form has been described as "Super Saiyan Rage" in the Black arc, which is something brand new. Super Saiyan Rage
Gotcha. Yeah, for Trunks I took it as going Super Saiyan while being unable to regulate your ki due to being overly emotional. There are a lot of cool characters in that trailer, but it feels like a catch 22 to me in the sense that either: a) We get brief glimpses of a lot of cool characters, and then they disappear forever after the arc concludes b) They don't disappear after the arc is over and the series gets oversaturated with new faces, and old favorites get pushed even further aside
But it still doesn't create any inconsistencies even though Broly's form wasn't canon. It was based off of a legend which was inconsistent in itself, stating it to be "a powerful warrior that appears every 1,000 years" when there are actually six (now seven) Super Saiyans currently alive. Adding a girl version of Broly (in a different universe, no less) doesn't create any inconsistency. It would actually make more sense, in my opinion.
Most likely the first one. The losing universes are destroyed so I don't think some of them will be back
It being a petty argument is why I was defending the show's inclusion of the character in the first place btw.
I hope the Legendary Super Saiyan of Universe 6 is not evil and gets to eventually team up with Goku in a future arc. I always wanted Broly to be canon and be good and this is pretty much that.
I wanna catch up on this but at the same time I may as well wait til it's all in English. Even though it will take years longer to air at this rate lol
The first Volume of the manga will be released in the States on May 2nd. That will catch you up much quicker than the English dub.
Honestly, with Super how it is, I find it hard to believe that Goku will be okay with his new best friend/s killing 11 Universes worth of innocent beings, so I'm hedging my bets that he convinces Omni King at the end of the tournament to spare all the losers and the king just goes "ummmm, okay sounds good!" The end.
I'm not sure if it will be every universe or just the universe that comes in last place (the first one with all of it's fighters to get knocked out of the tournament).
Sorta getting back into the series -- got to the Buu saga as a kid and kind stopped at that point. Was sick a few weeks ago and binged the last 70 episodes of DBZ to prepare myself for the Super dub. Just watched all three Broly movies tonight for the first time. Man, those were bad haha.
The first Broly movie was pretty good, but I just remember it being way too long. So much of the first half is like, "Come on, you don't realize he is the guy you're looking for?" Quick question: What's everyone's favorite DBZ movie? Janemba was probably my favorite villain, but as a whole, one of the first three had to have been my favorite just for the fight scenes alone. I think Movie 3 "The Tree of Might" is probably my pick. I used to love the days when all of the Z fighters got their time to shine.
I actually liked how the first one built up. The backstory of Paragus and Broly is really good. Vegeta is obviously arrogant as hell and is blind to everything so of course things didn't click for him until it was all laid out. I do agree it was a little long though, and it ended abruptly and terribly. Like, we're really supposed to believe that Goku absorbed what little power Vegeta had left and then suddenly he can literally punch through a person that he couldn't even land a hit on minutes prior? And on top of that, Goku somehow, in a matter of seconds, got every single person on the planet (including the other Z fighters) to to touch him so they could instant transmission to some random pod -- and that Broly also happened to escape somehow and conveniently land on Earth of all places? And then it just gets worse from there with the other two haha. Sorry, typed more than I meant to, obviously those movies are still fresh for me so it's easy to rant by mistake. Focusing on positive things, I think some favorites are Cooler's Revenge, Bojack, and World's Strongest. It has been a long time since since I've seen any of them so maybe they wouldn't hold up well, but I remember liking those ones a lot. If we're including the made for TV ones then the History of Trunks is up there too.
If anyone is interested, all this talk of DBZ lately gave me the urge to make like a music video/trailer like thing that just has a ton of cool DBZ moments to epic sounding music
