Yeah I remember being super skeptical about the animation going in, but it winning me over pretty early on. When I revisited it a couple years later it didn’t even phase me. Great movie that one
Yeah, it really made it help feel like I was watching a legit movie and not just a straight to dvd special imo. Really enjoyed it. I'll have to check out DBS Broly next
DBS Broly has some big highs, but a good bit that just doesn’t land for me. The worst animated parts are probably the worst looking in the entire franchise, and that’s apart from just not really being a fan of the whole abstract background thing that eats up most of the final fight. Also really dislike the Bardock/saiyans retcon
Those who have read the DBS manga, what did you think of Bardock's side story in the Granola arc? Not sure how I felt about a wish to the dragon being the only reason Goku and Raditz made it off the planet. And how wishing that his sons would prosper still had Raditz die pretty young? Over all, I did enjoy it, though
I think the whole granola arc was trash aside from Black Frieza It’s easily my least favorite super arc and a bottom 3 arc in all of dragon ball
I think it started off strong and I liked that it carried over from the prior arc, but it dragged like crazy. I’d honestly have to reread the Bardock flashback because I remember so little of it
It's more his wish to the dragon that I didn't love vs anything else with Bardock. But yeah idk. I don't think it was THAT much worse than the Moro arc over all. In fact, I think the Moro arc was a bit overrated. Not bad, but still a lower tier arc for me over all. Both are better than the return of future Trunks, though. For me, anyways.
The entire granolah arc was just Goku, Vegeta, Granolah, and Elec or whatever his name is battling only to go “heh not even using my full strength” or something dumb every chapter for like 8 chapters in a row. The first arc that felt like they were just winging the writing for each chapter and no clue where to take it until the very last chapter and then the ending was wrapped up in like 15 pages.
Haha I liked that, too. I wonder if this had a totally different animation team for the Gogeta fight? I thought the artwork looked a little different from the Goku vs Broly fight
One of my friends with zero knowledge of Dragon Ball went with me to watch Broly in theaters, and even he thought it was great. I’m not a big fan of the Broly character, but I’d say it’s definitely the best Dragon Ball movie
The animation there is inconsistent at best which is unfortunate because the parts that look good look amazing. But ao many frames across it were very obviously rushed and make otherwise ordinary scenes actually kind of hard to look at
The dub of the original DB is on Hulu now so I started binging it. Haven watched this since I was a kid. Currently on the World Martial Arts Tournament Saga. Master Roshi in disguise just beat Yamcha.
Moat of what I watched of this as a kid was the Red Ribbon Army Saga. I don't think I have seen this stuff before that before.
