I like that Kai cuts out some filler, but it’s missing one of the best parts of the original Z and that’s the US music. The Japanese music lacks in every way compared to the US broadcast score
The version of Z I'm watching is the 16:9 HD Funimation release and even that is missing those classic chugging electric guitars in the intro that my childhood nostalgia yearns for lol
Are those on the orange dvd sets they did? If so, I have those. I recall the menu screen having guitar music, but I haven’t watched the actual DVD’s in a long time.
It's the Funimation Blu Ray version, it has electric guitar but isn't the same as the theme song I watched on Toonami as a kid
I think of the outro credits music in this clip when I think of DBZ (22 seconds in): Oh and this intro Instead, I have this:
The orange boxes have the Japanese intro, which is fine. I just meant the US broadcast version that has stuff like this
I love “Vegeta YES”, but maybe my favorite DBZA Vegeta bit is being able to hear his scream from when he finds out Gohan hid the Dragonball on Namek across multiple timelines. Like they actually edited it into the History Of Trunks feature
I also love how pathetic Krillin is in it and the owned counter. Finished watching through the videos of the show, and have moved onto the specials now. "Ok. Get it together. Just gotta go in there and do it. Just like with Chi-Chi. Just like with Chi-Chi."
The movies are fun. The Broly one may be my favorite. Their take on him is great, and the Tuffles are unhinged. The line Trunks has about instant transmission always sends me
I decided to start reading the manga for the first time ever, from the very beginning. I'm really enjoying it. Pleasantly surprised that the anime of OG Dragon Ball is very faithful to the manga. I'm sure the differences are much more notable with Z, though, especially with the filler
Hmm. I gotta say. I'm up to the Namek arc in the manga now, and I'm kinda bored haha. So many pages and pages of just fighting with no dialogue just feels way less engaging than in an animated format. Definitely preferred the kid Goku stuff with all of that humor, adventure, story, etc
Wait until you get to Goku versus Frieza. It started airing when I was in sixth grade and finished when I was in college.
The entire Frieza Saga aired over the course of 1997-1999 so this is impossible unless you skipped high school. Did you? (eyes suspiciously)
Lol every time I get to this arc, it blows my mind how Dende didn't think to teleport Piccolo to them. His shocked "wait, you didn't tell me to bring him to us!" Like, what the fuck did you think they wanted you to wish him to Namek for, dude? Sight seeing?
In the Buu Saga, after Vegeta died and they think Gohan is dead, Goku is so worried about training the kids since he will have to go back to the afterlife, but then they literally tell Shenron they don't want to use all of their wishes. Why would you not bring back Goku? His lofty idea of staying dead to protect the Earth isn't working so clocking out and going home and leaving the fight to two elementary school kids is insane.
Considering he had just turned Super Saiyan 3, but still chose not to kill Buu because that's something the current generation of earthlings should do or some BS, they probably figured Goku would tell the dragon he refuses again like at the end of the Cell arc I guess. But yeah, dumb.
