I would highly recommend reading the Super manga instead of watching the anime. The manga is paced much better and feels more coherent. Plus the anime doesn’t even cover half of super since it stops after the tournament of power

I think s4 and 5 of super are good. I love Trunks and I enjoyed our Trunks coaching future Trunks, Vegeta teaching him stuff, Future Trunks explaining time travel to our Trunks, any future Trunks/Bulma stuff, I like a lot of the character stuff. Goku reacting to what happened when Goku black was created.

and I enjoyed s5 a lot. Forming the team and giving focus to the team members prior to the tournament was solid. The tournament itself having each episode essentially cover 60-90 seconds was oddly a fun way to do it. Lots of great character moments for everyone.

DBZ is still supreme as far as I’m concerned, but Super isn’t all bad.

I started reading the OG DB and will go all the way to whatever is newest. Gonna take me a bit to get there though.

I’ve only read the OG DB. Never seen the anime. Such a good read. I went through all the volumes in about 2 months

The anime is pretty good. I was hesitant to watch it for awhile since it was older and I knew goofier and I guess I took it as immature in a negative sense. But after recently watching it, while it is immature, it’s usually in a fun or entertaining way. Obviously, not counting some of the Roshi stuff. But other than that, I found it really enjoyable. I’m glad to have watched everything that is canon at this point. Well, canon within the anime. And after I finish GT I’ll have seen all the anime, minus some of the non canon DBZ movies.

Also, why did they do a different VA for narrator in GT? He’s isn’t bad or anything, but he’s no Doc Harris.

I enjoyed the goofiness of the OG DB that was in the manga. Daima seems like a good mix of the goofiness of OG DB and the higher stakes that were in DBZ. I’d watch the OG DB if they had the dub on Hulu but last time I looked it was only in Japanese

The dub is on Crunchyroll. That’s what I just watched.

I like Daima overall, but since Goku is still mentally an adult, it’s not working as well to me on the goofiness as it did in the OG. Part of why the OG works for me in this aspect is that he is just an innocent kid who doesn’t know better as he only ever interacted with his grandpa and then lived in isolation for years until running into Bulma. In Daima, it just comes across as being dumb. It just hits different.

  9. It took multiple attempts over the course of like 15 years for me to get through the original series anime haha. I quietly tapped out during the RR saga more than once. It just goes on for so long, especially the General Blue section. Once Tien shows up it becomes great imo. The fighting choreography in general is a lot more fun to watch than much of Z

Somewhat related but did anyone watch/read Sand Land by Toriyama? It was a pretty good two-season show last summer, but I thought for sure they would tie it into DAIMA (as an easter egg) with there being three different demon worlds lol

It's so worth the watch imo. I loved it, granted that I haven't seen it since high school lol

Btw it's really easy to find the dub pretty much all over the internet without downloading it, and if you have a streaming device with casting capabilities, you can just cast from your browser

The Red Ribbon Army season was probably my least favorite arc of the show. A lot of guns vs Goku isn’t that interesting when he just says “ouchie” and clobbers them. But I see it as them trying something new so not every season is a martial arts tournament. And since RR is the origin for a lot of enemies in the future, I liked seeing how it all started.

Also, I think this is my favorite thread on here. Definitely at the moment, maybe of all time.

I’m not sure what my favorite moment or arc was in the manga, but I remember when Goku found Krillin dead after the tournament it was a big change of tone going forward. The rest of the king piccolo arc was filled with twists which I enjoyed. So it would probably be between that or the last tournament as my favorite.

I kind of like the simplicity of the first tournament. But you’re right, going from the second immediately into Krillin being killed and Goku losing it to go find him (ignoring Roshi and I believe even skipped eating) really shifted some things. That last tournament may be my favorite. It brought everyone much closer to where they are in DBZ. It felt like a return home even though this came first. Goku showing up finally tall and no tail. Adult Chichi and such.

I miss the tournaments, those were always a lot of fun

One of the best jokes in the series is in the first tournament where Krillin is being affected by the guy who really smells until Goku breaks the fourth wall and points out that Krillin doesn’t have a nose, and suddenly he’s not affected anymore

A better question is what was everyone’s favorite part about Dragonball Evolution

  19. My favorite part about Evolution is the factoid that it is (at least the last time I checked) the lowest rated movie on Letterboxd

Daima finale was fine. No real surprises or reveals. Ultimately, a fun little side story for the series. I’ll rewatch when the English dub is fully out.

Yeah I thought the ending was okay. The animation was great of course, but no twists or anything. Also surprised they didn’t have their mind wiped or something. Now Goku knows full well he can go SS4 in Super and never does lol that’s quite a retcon

I knew the continuity would be wonky when Supreme Kai and Kibito unfused in the first episode. I was waiting to see if they would re-fuse by the end like you had mentioned a while back but… lol

Oh well, this was a great little side story. Sad it’s already over. Animation in the finale was A+.

I wouldn’t mind a season 2. Not sure if that is possible though. Or if they took the manga arcs like Moro and Granola and condensing them to 20 episodes each with this animation.
