Lmao at first I was surprised that Bulma said something so blatantly sexual this episode of a kids show, but then remembered all the crazy shit Roshi has said and done.

Man Toriyama really made it a point to give us good stuff from each previous show with DAIMA. So much fan service without feeling too absurd.

I will say that overall, I didn't *love* this episode just because it felt like more of the same. They turn back into adults in the first 30 seconds, and then it's just the same fighting and same super Saiyan forms we saw them just do for the last few episodes as kids

Decided to start Daima. Gonna do subs for it all. Them thinking turning them young will make them weak is so funny after just watching the OG DB.

Is GT that bad? I kind of want to check it out just because I never really watched it before. I think I heard the first saga is really bad but everything after Baby being introduced is pretty good?

  7. Not a big fan myself but I do think it gets too much hate. At only 64 episodes it’s at least worth checking out if you’re a fan of the franchise. Agree that it gets better once the Black Star saga ends

Sweet. Yeah I think I'll try it out of curiosity! Maybe I'll just skip past that saga if it isn't too confusing to do that. Like, I do at least know that Pan is Goku's granddaughter and he gets turned into a kid. Is that enough? Haha

GT is next on my list. Since it’s not canon, I’m in no rush, but I do want to see it. I’m caught up on Daima now, but I’m gonna finish rewatching the cell saga before moving on to anything else. Oh, I also watched the Super Hero movie last night and really enjoyed it.

Is there any point in watching Kai if I just watched the normal DBZ?

GT is portly paced, sometimes too fast (super 17 saga) and sometimes too slow (black star dragon ball saga). It gets really repetitive as well, even by dragon ball standards and lacks stakes imo (as does Super which is a problem I have with it). Some designs of characters are neat but outside of that I don’t have any ambition to re-watch the series.

For anyone wanting to watch it for the first time, you can honestly skip the first 15 episodes. When it aired for the first time in America they didn’t even air the first saga on tv lol (aside for the pilot episode)

  11. I don’t know that I’d recommend skipping it - Black Star saga kinda bleeds into the Baby saga a bit like the Androids with Cell. You’ll also probably want to have the context on Giru, a robot that travels with Goku, Pan, and Trunks

  12. I’ve never watched Kai in full - just too attached to the Funimation dub voice actors (Linda Young forever). Also don’t love some of the changes made to the script, even if it’s meant to be closer to the manga canon

I don't even remember how the real cut of the episodes go, to be honest, but at least with the first Funimation dub, they did a quick "flashback" episode at the beginning to set up the series and I thought that worked just fine.

I do remember being just slightly confused on a few small things though (which were then cleared up when I finally watched the "missing" episodes) but I wouldn't say it much of a deal.

Not sure you could just straight up skip those episodes without that re-cut flashback summary though.

  14. Ohh I see. I didn’t watch it live or anything, so if there was a recap at any point then I for sure missed it. Or maybe it’s in there and it’s been so long since I’ve seen GT that I forgot about it lol, entirely possible

That's hilarious. So that saga came later in American re-runs, or just English dubbed DVDs??

Even if I find GT to be bad, the shorter run compared to DB/Z/S means I’ll blow through it in no time.

  17. Speaking of stuff we’ve never seen, I’ve seen all of the Z movies, but never the original series ones. Anyone have takes on whether or not Blood Rubies, Sleeping Princess, and Mystical Adventure are worth seeking out?

Most of them are just straight retelling of the original 13 episodes.

I wouldn’t skip the first arc (the first 20 eps or so) because they eventually lead into the Baby arc. It’s not very good but it’s not like the worst thing in the world. If you got through the rest of the series, especially Super, then you can easily tolerate the worst of GT

Those episodes didn’t arrive in the US until the VHS started to release about a year later if I remember correctly. They then made a big deal about it calling it the “lost episodes” or whatever.

I decided to watch GT before resuming my partial DBZ rewatch. Figured I’d rather end my current DB viewings with the gold that is the cell saga vs GT that seems to be not that good.

I’m on the third episode now. I like the idea of having a story set years after Z. I want to see more of Pan, Goten, Trunks, and Gohan. It does feel very slow so far. I feel like they made Mai look too old in that first episode. I always felt she was around Bulma’s age. Not a big deal, just felt odd to me. The show also looks older than it is. Like compared to the android episodes I was just watching, this feels older/cheaper to me. I’m also unclear on how long after DBZ this is set. Goku says he’s been away from home for a few years. Pam was 4 at the end of Z, so I figured she’d be 7, but I think she’s meant to be at least 11 or 12.

But LOL at the family can’t afford their home and and it just gets repossessed and carried away. They were predicting the future with that one haha

Super I have not gotten through because it just seems pretty bad from reviews I've read haha. Are you saying Super is worse or on par with GT?

Ah yeah I would say Super is generally not very good. The first two arcs (God of Destruction and Golden Frieza) can just be watched in movie form. Then there’s a whole like 30-ep arc involving Future Trunks, which sounds cool but ends up being super repetitive and just kinda dumb. There’s some other stuff in-between that isn’t really worthwhile, and then there’s the Tournament of Power which is actually generally good but takes way too long to get to the part that’s actually worthwhile

Super is also like twice as long as GT which really hurts it. Though half of that is the Tournament of Power lol

The 2018 Broly movie kicks ass though, highly recommend. Like half of the movie is the actual big fight and it rules

  24. Save for some pretty dodgy animation in parts of the Broly movie (balanced by some sequences that are arguably the best the series has ever looked), the Super movies have all been solid. I’ve enjoyed them more than most of the Z movies I’ve rewatched as an adult. Though my favorite overall is still probably Wrath Of The Dragon. Fusion Reborn and The World’s Strongest gotta be up there too

Super is fun for the most part, but yeah it's definitely not without its own problems. That Broly movie is the direction I think a lot of people wished the series had gone in both art style and tone.

I still don't know how I feel about GT decades later. There's some good stuff there but it just feels really frustrating at times. That show is the absolute worst offender when it comes to making everyone but Goku completely useless (which is saying something).
