Yeah, it is an interesting choice for sure.. I forget the exact reasoning why the "Dragon Ball Z" anime title was created in Japan, which differed from the manga series title. The only bummer, in my opinion, is that "Dragon Ball" tends to be neglected in the US compared to "Dragon Ball Z." Most of the time, I think I actually prefer the original Dragon Ball anime! I like these full color releases a lot because we're finally seeing a manga release in the US correctly titled "Dragon Ball." https://www.amazon.com/dp/1421565927/?tag=absolutepunk-20
Yeah, I didn't even know about Dragon Ball for years and I've only just finished it now. I do think a lot of people who love DBZ wouldn't be as into Dragon Ball and it might not be as popular if it was all labeled the same thing. Who knows though.
I can see that perspective, too. Dragon Ball Z has a bit more action, and I think it translates better to a US audience. Great series for sure, though! I'm glad you discovered it. I'm currently in the process of rewatching the entire anime series/tv specials/movies in Japanese with English subs for the first time. It's great to see the original intentions for storylines, character personalities, etc. It's very different from the English dubbed version, which is probably what you are noticing from reading the manga as well.
Yeah, I feel like Goku on the snake was way shorter in the manga, haha. Also I don't think I originally picked up on Piccolo being an actual bad guy when I first watched DBZ.
I mean that complaint has existed for 20 years and is the crutch of the show at this point for better or worse, but this is easily my favorite since SS3. I like the “back to basics” aesthetic of it. It was cool to see spirit bomb absorption become canon, as it’s one of the better ideas the movies ever had. ‘What happens when someone pure is hit with a concentrated form of pure energy?’ is a cool trigger for a change. Also, I liked the bit of exposition that Goku had to reduce himself to base form to use the spirit bomb because Super Saiyan is inherently malicious. I think that’s the first time the series has touched on that, although I know they brought it up in the Android 13 movie.
some interesting stuff going on for better or worse. ultra instinct is cool. kefla's power scaling is maybe the most ludicrous of the franchise. not down with it yet. new manga chapter adds extra insight into jiren, good stuff.
they at leasted established that Universe 7 is one of the weakest universes which is why there are so many strong opponents, but the string bean Saiyans hitting that level because “their back is tingly” is fucking awful
I get the potara basically multiplying their fused strength, but yeah it's a little ridiculous after a while. It's like everyone can reach this new level just because they decided to. It kind of takes the fun out of it when like every character is a prodigy.
however, Frieza and Vegeta’s arcs have been awesome. it’s all worth it if we get that mini arc where Vegeta visits Sadala.
The way I see it SS blue is about extreme ki control. So on top of increased speed/strength they probably aren't wasting as much energy using blue as they do using ss2 or 3. I guess you could say it adds precision. Yeah, Goku doesn't need to go blue to beat Krillin but the extra control the form gives him let's him use just the right strength without a huge stamina drain. As far as U6 sayians, Vegeta said something about their base forms being just as strong as the U7 sayians so it makes since to me that super sayian would be easy to reach for them once they knew it existed. Plus U6 sayians are more evolved than U7 sayians, so I think it's cool that they have a better understanding of what's happening with their bodies when they transform. Wow I'm a nerd.
according to V-Jump scan translations, one of the next manga chapters features an actual visual appearance by Uub. i imagine it’s just a throwaway cut-away while Goku spitballs ToP recruits, but still.
Yeaaah I'll pass. Cell ones look ok though. I posted this in the video game thread, but if anyone is still going to pre order FighterZ, Best Buy gives you a free Future Trunks Pop figure. Not a bad deal.
I really want to get FighterZ but it’s heavily rumored to be released for the Switch later this year so I’m going to wait.
I told my self to wait for the switch version but I know I'll double dip for anything dbz. Also, just bought my girlfriend and I planet comic con kc passes so she can meet Chris Sabat/Mr Piccalo/ BADMAN/ ALL MIGHT for her birthday.
