Yeah I know but the z fighters have been training for years since as well. You'd think they could last more than a second against his first form. Oh well. I'm not complaining I love the show.
I watched the movies but have been enjoying the first arcs. Maybe I just don't rmemeber but there seems to be a lot of new stuff.
Absolutely just watch the movies instead. You will miss a few bits of fan service, namely appearances of (spoilers in case you decide not to) Gotenks and Ginyu, but the animation gets downright awful in parts. The movies do the stories more justice imo, and the animation picks up in the show almost as soon as those arcs end.
Yeah, I'd skip all the stuff that's retelling the movies because they just do the same stuff but dragged out with much worse animation. There's still some worthwhile episodes to be watched in that section though, mostly right at the beginning of the series before the first movie and then between arcs where it's just fun character stuff.
Cool, cool, thanks guys. I'll go for the movies then, maybe go back and watch some of the earlier stuff after I'm all caught up if I'm still itching for more.
I just rewatched all of the old dub last week. Man I love this series. And I love Super so far. I am trying to not watch any subs and just follow the dub.
The power scaling is a little strange in this show (even compared to Z). At least in Z, the "power levels" were consistent enough that it created debates about which characters were stronger and things like that. With this show, they literally just decide they want certain characters to become stronger in the moment just because it's convenient. Goku and Vegeta are in Super Saiyan God form, but it seems like they hardly outmatch anyone, while Frieza trains for a few months and temporarily becomes stronger than everyone. I still love the show but have been kind of baffled as to why they just kind of abandoned that aspect of the show.
i always took it as frieza just being a natural prodigy type so when he actually trained it boosted him exponentially
Yeah, that is a somewhat rational way of looking at it. But even if you suspend your disbelief for that part, the inconsistency still continued. Like when Vegeta and Goku went back to Trunk's future for the final time and Vegeta was getting the better of Black... Black literally just decided he could get stronger by being mad and then he was suddenly the strongest again. Then Trunks gets angry and gets some kind of God Ki to become the strongest... They just sort of seem to be making things up as they go sometimes.
Yeah Trunks being unable to do anything against Black for years and then all of a sudden he's holding his own it makes no sense so often, haha.
I've been trying to avoid spoilers and just keep up with the dub as it airs like I did for Z as a child so I have NO idea what you mean lol. I will see I guess. Besides the best saiyan got killed at the beginning of Z so yeah.
I strongly recommend watching the sub, because there are some spoilery spoilers to be spoiled that I doubt you'll dodge for the year and a half it will take the dub to get there, and we talk pretty openly about Super in here weekly
Super is so ridiculous that I don't even care about spoilers, haha. I'm waiting for the manga so I'm assuming I'll be behind the dub soon.
The Super manga is a lot more legit than the anime. The plot is more thought out and I believe it has more influence by Toriyamaz It's made by this guy Toyotaro who got his start in manga by creating a fan manga called Dragon Ball AF
Are you reading only the collected retail editions? Because Viz does free official translations chapter-to-chapter on their website. They delete any chapters that become available for purchase but right now they have chapter 10 through 25 available for free. VIZ: Read Dragon Ball Super Manga for Free from Shonen Jump
Damn, sorry about that. The series has been going on for a while now so I naturally assume anyone who is talking about it is probably caught up lol I haven't even watched the dub so I forget people are doing that. But yeah, I agree with everyone else. The manga is probably the best source because it takes everything at a better pace. There are certain elements of some of the sagas that aren't even in the anime that make it so much better.
I like the anime and manga both quite a lot, the manga does a lot of stuff better but also has it's own asspulls that can be headscratchers (mainly some Trunks stuff). It's got that GoT synergy where they both have their strengths and I wind up piecing bits of the manga together with the anime for my own head-canon lol.
I've only read Vol 1. I'm currently reading Dragon Ball and I'm going all the way through Z and then I'll read Super and probably stay up to date with the chapters.
Yeah I was getting that way too! Especially with the whole movie/anime/manga thing telling details slightly different. On the bright side though, it has kind of put an end to the whole "what is canon" debate because there's no hard line that says "the manga is canon" anymore. The anime is now the source material but is inconsistent with itself. It's kind of relieving because like you said, you kind of just decide for yourself what the actual story is. Edit: And yes, the Trunks stuff was my least favorite bit about that whole arc. Goku not actually doing the technique he spent an episode learning (in the anime) was ridiculously stupid in the execution.
