Eh, I don't think it's lame to want to make sure the people you follow and, in many cases here, give your money to every month, aren't doing anything to make themselves unworthy of that support. I didn't know he had unliked it yet. Last time I looked, I think at some point early yesterday, he hadn't. If he has by now then that's good, no harm done.

But yeah conversations like this are never lame, at all. Sorry if anyone feels that way!

 

I don't think it's lame to ask the question, for the exact reason you stated. It is lame to automatically assume the worst contrary to hundreds of hours of someone showing they're on the right side of these issues. Then continuing to question their character and continue the conversation after a perfectly reasonable and innocuous explanation.

Not saying you were doing that, but that's what I find unappealing about this situation.

I mean here it seems like you can't think of any reason why it could've been liked other than its an endorsement of Louie. My bad if I misunderstood, but it seems like assuming the worst.

Also, after the explanation, the first reply was a sarcastic "Right" gif. So yeah it seemed like some assumed the worst and didn't believe his explanation.

What I was asking was "What is a like other than an endorsement?" And that sentiment holds true. Sorry but I don't subscribe to the idea that liking something isn't an endorsement of that thing. That's 100% a copout thing to say.

What I wasn't saying was that he for sure 100% consciously liked the post knowing who was in it. For one thing, I didn't know that there was a function to automatically like someone's posts on Instagram whenever they post. And for another thing, like I said before, it was possible he was just scrolling, saw Sarah posted a picture with the people who worked on the Chappelle comedy shows, and liked it without realizing Louis was there. I wasn't ascribing motive by asking what a like is other than an endorsement, though.

And as for someone posting a sarcastic "Right" GIF, I mean, I'm not going to blame anyone for being a bit skeptical given how many times we've seen people in comedy who were previously thought of as woke (including Louis himself!) go bad unexpectedly. People have been burned before. And like @phaynes12 said, it's easy to be skeptical and want accountability from people you don't care about, it's way harder to do so for people you do. But you have to do it anyway, even if it seems "lame".

 

Sorry I misunderstood your initial comment and didn't see the other. I agree. And I agree we should be as critical to people we admire as we are with people we don't like. We have a lot of evidence of him being on the right side of social issues and I think he's spoken directly about CK, it seemed like that was being ignored by some people and the only thing being taken into consideration was the like which could have several explanations, many that don't fly in the face of everything we know about Nick.

 

Listen, I learned a while ago that no matter what you think you know about someone famous and no matter how much you respect that person, they will always have the capacity to turn around and make you regret you ever liked them. And it can happen so fast you'd never see it coming. Part of being a fan of someone means always being on guard for that.

 

I'm honestly operating under the assumption that everyone regularly in this and the comedy thread understands this. But when it comes to something like liking a picture, it doesn't exist in a vacuum, we can still take what we know about Nick and what we know about Instagram into consideration. Once again it didn't seem like some people were doing that, my bad for misunderstanding anyone's position.
