"If you work at Ralph's, fuck you." I love Hodgman on the pod, particularly in this episode. Neutral on the other guy, but he didn't bother me.
David Rees was fine. And I love/hate Hodgman. He can be great but there are times I’d love for him to just shut the fuck up.
omg they posted the Costco pictures a week early It's Whole Foods today. They just spoiled next week's episode it looks like.
like Mitch, I've also never been to whole foods. I live within 5 miles of, legitimately, 9 chain grocery stores (something like 13 if you include Target/Walmart and whole foods). As a result, they're all pretty mediocre, WF just always seemed so unnecessarily expensive. also loving this Home Improvement talk, I think about Goth Mark too often
i ... disagree. they also aren't really comparable and both serve their own purposes that they excel at
I went to a Whole Foods once cause it was the only place for food around a venue I was playing. Hot Bar kinda sucked and I felt vindicated by this episode cause my food was also unnecessarily wet. also fuck Bezos
the hot bar rules, their butcher and seafood counters are pretty great, and some of their condiments and grain stuff are good. it’s not as much of a regular trip as TJs or more traditional stores, but i enjoy the stuff at WF probably most
I have a friend who works at Whole Foods and says even with their employee discount, it's still considerably more expensive than other chains around here. I'm all for paying the premium if the quality is significantly better or that money is distributed to the workers, but it doesn't really seem to be the case. I do really miss grocery store hot bars though. I feel weirdly attached to the mediocrity of an overpriced buffet
