Yeah I used to follow him because of his good takes on politics and stuff but the rest of it became so frustrating that I had to unfollow.
Patton Oswalt the guy who's best friends with A Wyatt Mann who drew one of the most enduring and reposted antisemitic caricatures of the internet age? Jack better be nice to him!
this would mean anything if Jack were coming after, you know, his friendship with A Wyatt Man and not his taste in sci fi movies and superhero television shows but hey deflect on
i dont give a fuck about Jack or Patton but the argument here is definitely more based in the sentiment behind the twitter stuff and not who is behind it, there are a million Jacks out there shitting on people's hobbies or fandoms
This is just "let people enjoy things," a very silly argument. Mostly serves to run interference against any criticism of comically evil megacorp Disney. Let people shit on things imo
shit on things generally, whatever. shit on an individual person for liking things as the sole reason for your attack, and you're a toxic asshole contributing to a larger culture of toxic assholes. takes a fucking NERD to go back four years to find someone's Star Wars opinion for a sweet tweet dunk
Again, let's not confuse shitting on a person for liking a thing with shitting on the thing itself. One makes you a prick and the other is totally fine.
The one thing Jack does that makes me roll my eyes is when he conflates someone’s personal politics or interactions with him to the quality of their art. Sure they can be related sometimes but a lot of the time he’s just trying to make his dislike of something morally quantifiable But overall I enjoy following him. I don’t care about Star Wars enough to be bothered by his contrarianism on it and I don’t watch the tv shows he shits on
I mean, as I said before, he didn't just like pick out Patton as a random person to attack. He's been consistently frustrated by rich and famous friends of rich and famous people blowing smoke up their asses. He didn't find a 10 year old little boy who's into the movies and blow them up. Basically: I think that him quoting Patton is purposefully poking the bear after seeing the Hodgman video, but overall I really don't see what he's doing as inherently bad. He's entertaining, he brings out the worst in shitty people and he's pretty consistently good at exposing injustice within the entertainment industry.
I just think going after people for their taste in entertainment is a petty and small thing to do, especially when there are legitimate things to criticize them over. I don't care about Patton specifically, I'm just against doing that to anyone in general. That Patton is a celebrity doesn't negate the fact that it's a lame thing to do in general. This tweet is about something entirely different. By all means if he doesn't like Watchmen or Star Wars he should criticize those things. I'm not some fragile manchild that can't stand to watch things I enjoy get criticized, because that doesn't change my own enjoyment of the thing. But he shouldn't then turn around and insult me for liking them. It's a simple as, just, don't be a dick.
I like Jack's politics and when he calls out people that deserve it, but he's often an exhausting hot take machine that reminds me of my co-workers that can't help but constantly remind you that they hate something. I'm fine with criticism of anything, but don't need to be told constantly he doesn't like "Star Wars" or "Watchmen." Kind of like Mitch getting bent out of shape every time "Star Wars" is mentioned.
I don’t even know if I follow jack, but I generally think he’s right on the imbalance of power in the entertainment industry and politics He should be allowed to shit on things, but shitting on people for liking things seems like a low bar. There’s a ton of valid criticism on the people he shits on, even that they won’t say anything negative about major film releases is valid. But just shitting on them for liking something falls a little flat, it needs the added context and nuance to really hit, and just saying “this guy has bad taste” isn’t much of a dunk.
I am definitely pro-Jack in most cases, but the unnecessary shit also tends to pull more shit-stirrers into the mix, like the asshole in his replies saying Patton killed his wife
People that say shit like this are fucking deplorable. I wish I could snap my fingers and turn off their internet access ha
Mitch's reasoning for why Disney World is better than Disneyland is that if you go to the top of a ride that's not even in Disneyland you see Anaheim
I think I get what’s he’s saying. You get to see the epcot ball, the magic kingdom castle, some views you can see the Orlando eye....he just wasn’t very good at explaining it
His ultimate point about the immersion of the Disney World complex versus Disneyland being in the middle of Anaheim makes sense. When you’re “in Disney World” I can see how it can feel almost removed from the rest of the world in a lot of ways.
Never been to Disneyland only Disney world and I enjoyed it but have no idea if the differences. The last time I was there was 14 or so years ago though.
