Nick and Mitch are two of my favorite people in all of entertainment. Doughboys is probably my favorite current piece of media across all platforms. It’s helped me through some shitty times and I have come to rely on hearing from them twice a week. They seem like genuinely good guys who look out for all of the people that help them out/come on the show. Just knowing how awkward and self conscious both of them can be about dumb shit on the show makes me feel horribly for how this must be making them feel. I hope this doesn’t add any added pressure for them to end the pod. I hope that if they do anything, they switch up the format for the sake of their health at the end of the year. Id pay to hear them talk about anything.
Yeah because no fans give a shit about hiding it or not. Even if he truly feels this way, which is asinine, the fact that he felt the need to post it anywhere, especially on Twitter tagging Wiger, is so gross to me. It just reeks of self-importance, no one would be hurt by just keeping this dumb opinion to himself.
Nick and Mitch, unsurprisingly, handled the whole situation great. Can't say as much for the other 3.
So Nick says Starburns Audio still owes them $7000 and Spencer says it still owes Harmontown $50000...wtf was going on at Starburns Audio?
Starburns is just what Feral became i think, and Feral seems by all accounts to have been very poorly run
I think PF Changs is the most readily available place they've visited that I've never been. Jess and Zach should be great.
Yeah they're both annoying as hell. Probably the worst guys from the Doughboys universe Even though I usually agree with them, they're just so unpleasant
Jack can be a prick but sometimes that’s good. Seems like he doesn’t have a problem shitting on problematic folks in the same scene even if it hurts him (Jensen, Hardwick, etc). But yeah he’s not above punching down which is lame.
I can't find it but he posted some pretty clear proof about Jensen. It's the scummy FuckJerry/FatJew style internet content theft but he's selling it on shirts and posters and stuff. When he called him out for it Jensen would make up some excuse about how hard it was to find the original post so he couldn't give credit. edit: here's some of it but I can't find the rest
This whole thing is beyond ridiculous. No one has any right to know how much anyone else makes financially, nor do they have the right to tell them how to run their business (pay their guests/employees, business ethics) - If you don't like what they're doing, don't support them. That's how capitalism works.
Do I think their guests should be compensated? Sure, but if people choose to guest on Earwolf shows without being paid that's up to them. No one is being forced to guest on their shows. If you disagree enough with that business practice, let them know. Don't listen to the show, don't buy their swag, don't subscribe to Stitcher.
This is like comics striking against The Comedy Store in the 80's because the club wasn't paying them.
Which is fine too. Comics should strike if they feel like their working without pay. And fans should boycott those clubs/podcast networks if they feel strongly about it as well. I wouldn't exactly call being a guest on an Earwolf show (without pay) being an "exploited worker" - Once again, they're not slaves. They aren't being forced. They're not going to be punished if they choose to only go on podcasts that pay them. Lots of their guests are established working actors/musicians/comedians who don't "need" the money (not that they shouldn't be paid) and the up and coming ones who might need the money, are getting huge exposure by being on these shows. Like I've said, people should be paid for their work, but most of the time that matter is between the employer/employee. As a consumer you can vote with your dollar. Support businesses that operate in a more fair manner.
Doing a job and not being paid for your labor is exploitation, full stop. Being forced under threat of punishment is irrelevant. Even if it's not, if doing unpaid work is required or de facto necessary to move on in your career which it is, that is a certain type of coercion. This is like saying "if you don't like your job you can leave it," which is true, but everyone needs some kind of job, and there might not be many or any available that you like or that treats you fairly. Podcast guesting, at least guesting on podcasts that are incorporated businesses from which people take salaries, should be covered under union rules similar to how acting works. Lots of actors don't need to be paid for the Tonight Show but they take the money because doing so upholds the integrity of the union agreement which in the end prevents people like you from using them as reasons why people who do need the money don't need to get paid. Exposure is nice but you can't buy food or pay rent with it. Voting with your dollar patently doesn't work. Walmart is literally the biggest corporation in the world and is also one of the most blatantly and brutally exploitative towards it's employees. The idea is absurd on its face. One look at Nick's twitter or searching for him talking about unions should make it clear he has similar values. It's part of the reason they started paying guests.
Most guests have something to plug as well, I didn't realize Tonight Show paid their guests. But from a smaller platform, such as these podcasts, they're out there plugging themselves, their brand, etc. Typically you have to pay a promoter to do those things, not the other way around.
