saw this tonight. it's better than i feared but it's also biting off more than it's able to chew. thank god florence elevated things at nearly every turn. certainly deserves a fairer trial than i think it's gotten from certain people
Good or bad i'm still excited to see it, as well as just by being out finally we can be done with the whole online dramas and move on. (Since this is pretty DOA in terms of awards consideration we won't be hearing much else about it unless it becomes an insane break out hit that plays for a while)
Yeeesh. Thought this was pretty bad. Florence Pugh really saves it from being a total disaster. Suffers from a lot of the same problems as Last Night in Soho.
I liked this a lot! But I also think it's unnecessarily long and excessively stylized. Lots of good ideas in a jumbled up mess that fails to find the right balance between style, substance, and efficiency. It's okay for films to meander, but as a thriller, this dragged. I liked Last Night in Soho a lot, too, though! I think that's a good comparison, if you liked Soho despite its flaws you'll likely also like DWD
I think if you have A-List or something it's worth it, otherwise wait for streaming? Feel like I should also mention my audience laughed at Harry Styles in a couple of scenes. His acting kinda took me out of it, then the laughing really took me out of it. Florence is great in this, though.
The last 20 minutes is shit, what a wasted opportunity because everything leading up to it was pretty good imo.
Yeah I liked this too. Another incredible Pugh performance. Definitely messy at times and I thought Harry was kinda bad but yeah 3/5 for me
The first two acts of this are fine if a little boring. The third act is laughably bad, both in terms of the reveals and characters' motivations for their actions.
Considering the grand tradition of successful directors butting heads with their stars and having no consequences, she shouldn't face any repercussions. And I don't think the movie is poorly directed. She clearly has competence directing comedy and drama. I think it's the performances, mainly Styles, and the screenplay that let the movie down.
eh this is definitely poorly directed. the third act is a mess. it could have been worse with a worse director but that doesn't mean she did a good job and it's just the script
She also has the Kerri Strug movie in pre-production and is attached to one of the "Spider-Man" adjacent movies. I think she'll be fine.
