I think saying it’s going to be a Movie That Actually Happened is overstating it. There’s a decent amount of people that either like it or love it. I’d say it’s closer to the response of Avatar.
I can’t fathom calling this or Old one of the worst movies ever, or even one of the worst of the year. Both were perfectly fine. Different strokes and all, I get it, but… wild
Don't Look Up is one of the worst. It is probably the worst non-musical of the year. Old is good, though.
i cannot encourage anyone to watch free guy but it’s hard to imagine anything being worse than that in this year or any year. i hate it.
A lot of y'all keep saying stuff like 'this isn't as smart as it thinks it is'...I don't think it was aiming to be smart. Watched it last night (kinda drunk tbh), thought it was fine. Definitely not great or anything, but not nearly as bad as some of y'all are making it out to be. A little too long to be sure, and I wish it was more of a comedy (which I was totally expecting going into) but I don't regret watching it at all.
You aren't doing yourself any favors comparing yourself to Dr. Strangelove. Start by saying you are misunderstood like Showgirls and work your way up from there.
Ahh yes everyone had it all! Everyone’s life was perfect in this country and around the world! How poignant!
I didn’t notice that but say Jonah’s tattoos several times and wondered if they just didn’t care about that.
Lol you need to see more movies then. I thought overall it was pretty middling, and I definitely get if this is one of your least favorite movies. But to say out of all the movies ever made - Plan 9, The Room, Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2, etc - that this is among those, is ludicrous.
The Room was made my some rich weirdo with no experience and no input. Don't Look Up was made by a director with decades of experience and a Hollywood budget. Don't Look Up is worse.
Don't Look Up's budget is the thing that makes it unquestionably better than something like The Room, and Leo is at least a pretty good performance. But hey, I get how people dig into their opinions and can't look past them.
How does a higher budget make it better? If anything, that makes the failure worse. "Worst film" always has an unspoken suffix, which is professional or major film. The worst film that came out this year was seen by twenty people and is stuck on someone's iPhone or Final Cut Pro. However, it doesn't really help anyone to talk about a film like that. It would be like if we debated whether the Jets or the Lions are worse this year and someone points out that both of them could steamroll a pee-wee team. Comparing it to a Tommy Wiseau or Ed Wood film automatically makes Don't Look Up look awful because a major Hollywood film with one of the greatest actors of all time to some no-budget vanity project shouldn't even be close.
Eh, I would say I have a different perspective on that. I view that suffix more as 'films in the general public zeitgeist', which The Room definitely falls under. So, it's not super productive to have this discussion if we don't see films the same way, but I respect your opinion.
