It is a consistent problem with Free Throw though. Yes it’s the wider genre too, but MANY other well regarded bands in the genre make an effort to include women/nb/poc artists in their lineups. Free Throw never seems to. It’s always turned me off of them a little.

I made a post in the accountability thread about this issue because it’s definitely a case where white male bands get opportunities easily where bands that are more diverse have to work extra hard to get those same opportunities. The band Ganser from Chicago has been talking about this on Twitter recently after getting double booked as a support slot on a major national tour and it sucks that it happens and bands just keep touring with their white male friends bands.

Also Charmer opened for Free Throw on tour in 2018. While I have never seen Charmer live before as I was unable to attend that tour, like, come on, change it up. There are tons of different smaller acts you could take out as support.

For every Bartees Strange or Meet Me @ The Altar who are getting great support slots, there are tons of Ganser’s who are struggling to get any/good support slots. It’s fucked that this is a thing.

Considering Free Throw toured with Tiny Moving Parts a month after Dylan was accused of sexual assault, and they never spoke out about it after the fact in any way to my knowledge, I don't know that they care too too much about what kind of messages are sent by who they tour with.

And it's not Dogleg or Charmer or Bad Luck's fault either, what are they going to do, turn down a tour where they likely don't even know who the other bands on the bill will be when they get the offer? Headliners need to take responsibility for their lineups.

For sure, this isn’t a Dogleg or Charmer or Bad Luck issue, it’s all on Free Throw here.

  8. It’s also a booking agent problem too

I had the same issue with Origami Angel opening for Moms Jeans....

Not defending that, but on that tour Pool Kids are opening which is good. Although a POC band on the bill still would be important and it’s not like there aren’t any ready to be on a tour like that.

Yeah Pool Kids on that tour, Sincere Engineer on the hot mulligan/pdaddy tour, there are plenty of good examples. It’s really not hard to not make your lineups ALL white dudes.

Yeah and blaming booking agents is just passing the buck tbh

I should have quoted the post I was replying to. I was replying to the post about Free Throw/TNP.

don't really love the implications of these two tweets lol especially that second one which is one step away from using the phrase "virtue signaling" unironically.

Never considering their gender or “whatever else” is exactly how tours like this one in question or that Pure Noise tour with State Champs/Real Friends/Four Year Strong/Just Friends/Bearings (where there’s just one woman on the whole package and no POCs in the bands) continue to happen by these same bands. Obviously not every tour is going to be diverse but the people calling this out are doing so because it’s an issue with the same bands and they aren’t doing this to help rectify the situation, like take more marginalized bands on tour.

RIYL for retirement party? I’ve been wanting to see dogleg bad, but not sure about driving 2 hours to Indy or Columbus for just an opener

I’m pretty sure it’s a co-headliner, they’ll both play like 40 mins probably. Retirement Party is great too though, their album from last year Runaway Dog is worth checking out.
