I've yet to be a fan of the Master. I thought the John Simm version became super cheesy (when he's flying around and shooting lightning and that bullshit) and Missy is almost too playful/sometimes over the top. It's likely do to me completely missing the point of the character, but I'd like a version of The Master that actually feels like a smart, dangerous villain

Enjoyed the first episode of this series. It was a good introduction to Bill and there were some fun moments. I particularly liked the exchanges about the TARDIS. The vibe felt slightly different (in a positive way). Enjoyed seeing the Doctor as a university lecturer and I'm sure we'll hear more about the vault. Didn't expect to see the Daleks so that was notable too. I also thought Matt Lucas' character (Nardole) was a lot more interesting/funny than in the Christmas episodes.

Hoping this series returns to what made Doctor Who such a magic show and gives Capaldi the send off he deserves. Not holding my breath after Sherlock Season 4 (I'm in the camp that didn't really enjoy the majority of it) but always willing to give Doctor Who a chance...

Really great start to the season. The Doctor, Bill and Nardole make a great TARDIS team. Also thought this was written and directed beautifully.

Glad to have this back. Thought this episode had some great shots and am completely on board with the dynamic between the leads.

So the rumors are flying about who the next Doctor may be, and the twitterverse is collectively pissy about it.

Finally got the chance to see the first episode. I really enjoyed it. Probably my favorite of the Capaldi season openers.

That's because he's terrible. And i'm not even that much of a Who fan.

Just saw the latest Christmas episode and I thought that was one of the best episodes of the entire show. Justin Chatwin and Charity Wakefield both nailed it in their respective roles.

What a great second episode! Really loved Bill and the Doctor just walking around and exploring.

  11. That's... not what I expected out of an episode about emoji-bots. Good on them for making a stupid premise into something quite compelling. And also, the dynamic the Doctor has with Bill has been great already.

For the longest time, this whole mysteriousness about an oath and a vault made me think I missed something, as though the Doctor made the oath with someone in the previous series and I just couldn't remember. Nope, apparently something just happened between the Christmas Special and this series that we have't been shown yet.

I felt like I missed something as well, since its hard to remember where the previous seasons left off with the amount of time they leave between them

I've been introducing my wife to Doctor Who, so we started with Christopher and have been working out way forward.

We just did Midnight and Turn Left back to back and my goodness is that a downer. It was so long ago for me, I just didn't really remember. Riveting stuff, though.

Another terrific episode! This season has been pretty flawless so far imo and this might be the best yet. The Doctor and Bill's relationship is growing stronger and I like some of the tougher social aspects tackled in the episode. On the edge of my seat about what's in the vault at this point.

Pleasantly surprised at how consistent this season has been so far

I've really liked this season. Can't believe it's half over already. Bill just fits in so naturally, I think she's great. It's going to be really interesting to see how Missy plays into the rest of the season now, and how the Master is going to fit into that. I suspect there's more to the vault than what's been revealed. And I've heard this is supposed to be a 3 part episode? That should be interesting. I'll be shocked if this season doesn't head somewhere bigger though by the end - I can't picture Moffat going out quietly.

My wife found last night's episode to be a bit confusing. Wasn't helped by the fact that she fell asleep with around 10 minutes left...! I tell her she doesn't have to watch but for some reason she persists!

Really loved The Pyramid at the End of the World. I've enjoyed all three of the last episodes but this was the first one that I left the episode thinking "that was vintage Doctor Who and I really can't wait to find out what happens next week". Pleased Capaldi has finally got a memorable storyline to accompany his excellent performances as the Doctor.

  21. Haven't watched this new season yet. How does it compare to the last few quality wise ? Latest one was my favorite since S5 or S2 / S3.

Quality is much higher in my opinion, in production and in storytelling. Feels a lot less cheesy than it has in the past.

I'd agree - quality has been higher overall. First episode was good, the next few were average but the last three have been excellent.

Haven't commented in here for a while, mainly because I found the conclusion to the three part story to be a bit underwhelming and too easily solved. A shame, because the first two parts were fantastic.

The following two episodes have been ok but nothing to shout about. I probably preferred The Eaters of Light slightly more.

I'm in the minority that actually liked the conclusion to the Monk three parter. It really hit me emotionally for some reason, but I can see how logically maybe the resolution is a little weak. Empress of Mars and Eaters of Light were both solid episodes as well, especially Eaters. I am so ready for this two part finale and not ready at all at the same time. I am so not ready for Capaldi to go. But from what I've heard this finale is going to be bonkers.
