I stopped watching at some point during Capaldi's run, I really need to finish it since I've heard so many great things about his final episodes. I don't even know what episode I last saw. Gotta get on that before the anniversary specials (probably will skip Jodi's run entirely)
They are really going in on the 10 nostalgia (nostalg10a) huh I will say it's fun to see the improvement in visual effects since Tennant was last on screen!
It looks a little too slick and big for my Who tastes, but happy there's still a shitty "man in suit" alien
Skip her entire run?! How dare-- *points* --Sexist misogynist pig! Joking aside... The romantic tension between the Doctor and Yaz was so last minute it felt queer-bait-y, I wish they'd explored that more. Having a woman Doctor and a poc Master is cool and all but of course they have to even things out by always having an old white guy around as a companion, can't have the show be too woke And of course there's the fact that the Doctor left the poc Master in the hands of Nazis, that was dumb Not to mention the retcon of the Doctor's origin story rewriting Gallifrey's history yet again I love Jodi's Doctor. So much. But her run fumbled so many things along the way.
I've liked Jodi in everyting I've seen her in, but yeah it seems like the writing wasn't there for her run.
Capaldi’s second season is the best of the whole show imo highly recommend watching that new trailer looks... fun but yeah a little slick and nostalgia baity, I was kind of hoping RTD would push the boat out a bit on this one. NPH's accent is a choice
Jodie was a great Doctor but the writing for most of her run was crap. She deserved better than Chibnall.
I actually like that episode because of how campy and silly it is...two qualities I genuinely miss from the original RTD era lol. Plus Capaldi is just too much fun to watch even in the midst of subpar writing/stories. also it only just dawned on me today somehow that with Ten and Donna returning, and Bernard Cribbins having passed...they're gonna have to write it into the show that Wilf has died. And that scene will wreck me lol. Unless Bernard Cribbins filmed something in secret, but there's no way we wouldn't have found out by now hah
put on World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls tonight. what an amazing two hours of TV, maybe my favourite in the history of the show. TDF alone has more incredible lines of dialogue than other entire eras of this show, so good
I'm rewatching everything starting with Eccleston (currently about to finish up series 2) for the first time since I binged/was introduced to everything in 2013. I never understood the hype around Tennant, but this time around I'm absolutely loving him. Smith is my Doctor, so I'm really interested to see how I feel about his seasons this time around.
I'm feeling like I should rewatch the RTD era once again before RTD2 kicks into gear this year. a lot of it has aged poorly for me and I usually tend to just revisit the 2-3 episodes per season I love but feels like I owe it a proper fresh eyes retry
https://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/n...-doctor-almost-cancelled-says-chris-chibnall/ not hugely surprising maybe, but still scary
it's not immune to being canned unfortunately even though it'll likely always be brought back in some form. the audios/books/comics likely will outlive the show because they're so much cheaper to produce bringing RTD back really seems to have been a Hail Mary for everyone involved. so many rumours about weird BTS stuff in the Chibnall era, stuff barely being finished on time despite how long it was between seasons and them having less episodes than the previous eras. there's apparently at least two whole scripts from Flux that they just didn't film and had to awkwardly fill in the gaps for. just a very strange era of the show, all around
If they hadn’t got RTD as the new showrunner I would have been happy for a longer break and then reboot in 5-6 years. It was getting tired. But excited for the return of RTD. Hope he can bring back some of the magic.
Yeah I guess I wouldn't have minded an extended break if they said they had every intention of coming back
I get what you’re saying but sometimes things get too stale and just need to be laid to rest with no expectation that they’ll be resurrected. Knowing it’s coming back defies the point. The way things were going a 1996 film to Christopher Eccleston reboot 9 year wilderness gap could have been necessary. Anyway, I hope RTD can pull this off and rejuvenate a flagging franchise for the BBC.
RTD just said Doctor Who will be his sole focus for years, so yeah I think we'll be alright on that front. I'd be lying if I said Disney getting their hands into this mix didn't make me nervous, but it's better than the show getting cancelled
Personally, I’d have been fine with DW leaving the air for awhile. It was revived before and certainly would have been again since that’s 80% of what we do with media now lol
