old lady is definitely Tecteun I'd put good money on it. I feel like that reveal would've had more impact if we'd seen her in the first episode preparing for The Doctor or something but yeah. definitely feeling the impact of a full season being reduced to 6 episodes cos of COVID here
I absolutely loved this. I'm very glad they aren't shying away from some of the more controversial aspects from the previous season.
Finished reading through all the 13th Doctor comics and they’re really fun, but they much more than the others I’ve read so far lean too heavily into fan service. It works well to a point (her saying Geronimo and Allonsy, the introduction of the Corsair from The Doctors Wife) but the last two volumes revolve around her meeting Tennant & Martha DURING the events of Blink and then her meeting a different Tennant and an alternate timeline Rose and having to redo the Tesla episode with them. The art, writing, and story are all fun, but it just feels creatively cheap unfortunately.
Yeah, I feel like every year I see a new comic featuring 13 meeting 10 lol so it's not super surprising to hear about the other fan service-y parts. But that's cool they seem enjoyable and well done outside of that!! I've been wanting to get more into the comic and novel aspect of the doctor who EU, it sounds like some 13 comics may be a decent place to start
I already drive myself crazy keeping up with the show and Big Finish, my sincere kudos to anyone who does the comics and novels too haha (really want to read the VNAs someday tho, 7 is my favourite Doctor)
thre's so much of it now that I fully cannot keep up anymore, but the first decade-ish of Big Finish has some of the best DW content ever created imo. including, possibly, the actual singular best (The Chimes of Midnight)
Chimes of Midnight is excellent, probably tied with the Holy Terror as my favorite (early) Big FInish. Would highly recommend everyone check out some Big Finish episodes And I agree about the VNAs haha. I have a PDF of Lungbarrow, just because I hear people talk about it all the time and one of these days I'll find out what all the hype is about
Just watched episode 3 and I am finding this series a bit too confusing. I’ve followed it but my wife is completely lost.
yeah last week was borderline incomprehensible, not in a good way. didn't even feel like a finished episode to me today's episode was amazing tho. best episode of Jodie's era by far imo. just let Maxine Alderton write every episode Chibnall you coward
This series has been such a blast. Loved having the angels back. I haven't been this excited about the show in a while, I genuinely can't wait for the next couple episodes.
I don't know if this is really the right thread for it but not sure where else it can go: I've been watching RTD's recent miniseries for BBC and they're absolutely fucking phenomenal. It's A Sin is one of the rawest and most devastating shows I've ever seen, and I'm halfway through Years and Years now and it's deeply unsettling and horrifying but funny all at once ...his writing has come a long way since the New Who revival basically lol. he could do something really special with his second era if he brings that level of maturity and insight to it
Oh man, I just finished It's a Sin a few weeks ago and it was incredible. Years and Years is up next for me, I think. Personally, I wasn't much of a fan of RTD's first run, but I am so so so excited to see what he does once he returns. He clearly has grown a ton as a writer, and with how much the TV landscape has shifted since he left, I bet he'll oversee some of the best Doctor Who in the show's run
Years and Years is like if Turn Left was a full season. great, bleak stuff but It's a Sin is really something special and I'm with you. RTD era's highs were incredible but I find a lot of it frankly hard to watch these days. he's come so far I almost can't believe it's the same writer now haha
I watched the angels episode last night and it was the first episode I’ve thoroughly enjoyed from the four.
I see we're back to just throwing 10 storylines at the audience with no breathing room and hoping something sticks. I seriously feel like he's just compressing two seasons' worth of plans into 6 episodes here before his era ends but hey always a delight to see Kate
