it’s just wild you have to watch 20+ movies and however many tv shows just to keep up with everything going on.

Over the course of 14 years. It’s a lot if your a newcomer, though. Don’t envy anyone starting now.

Still, it’s rewarding for those still going after 14 years. I’m still loving it.

I see your point. But seeing as it’s the only franchise to achieve this amount of movies and now tv shows as one continuity, I roll with it. Others have tried and have failed. The only other one that comes close to having a long running story are the Fast movies, but they will end long before they get as long as the MCU. I can’t think of anything else that’s pulled off 10 movies plus in a row.

none of which invalidates your point. It may be unique but there is an insane amount of content to be able to say you’ve seen it all. Like @PauLo said, taking it in over 14 years makes it seem like way less of an issue for me. But anyone new? Yea, that’s a lot to ask if someone to get up to speed.

I don’t mind that these phases aren’t ~leading anywhere~ Infinity Saga was a big undertaking and they nailed it for the most part. It’ll be extremely difficult to recreate anything like that. For now I’m fine watching characters go on adventures and sometimes interact with each other. What I do mind is that the last few years of movies have just been playing uninteresting. I think the only one I liked all the way through was Shang-Chi

Not to discredit your point or anything, cause I can hardly discredit your personal opinion, but I do want to point out that you say "the last few years of movies", and unless you're counting movies from the Infinity Saga, then it's only been 1 and a half years.

Last year marked the beginning of the current phase. Five movies. Black Widow, Shang Chi, Eternals, Spider-Man, and Dr. Strange. I'm sure for some people it feels like an eternity, but still...

Yeah but of those five movies I’ve only fully enjoyed one.

Me and my wife love the MCU and we’ve been talking a lot about how when the time is right to possibly introduce our son to it all.

I know, your point on that still stands. I'm solely stating that calling it "the last few years" implies a span of time that is far greater than what it actually is.

It's like if I said a band hasn't put out a good album in years, when the last one I enjoyed came out only two years ago. I'd sound a bit daft, wouldn't I?

This conversation reminds me of this tweet I saw earlier, which pretty accurately describes my comic-reading childhood (and my current approach to these films):

I remember my first comic books were definitely part of larger story arcs where I had no idea what the hell was going on.

One of my first X-Men comics was a part right smack dab in the middle of X-Cutioner's Song.

I open the page and they're talking about clones, and the Legacy Virus, and god knows what else, and I didn't know what the hell was going on, but I still thought it was cool.

Am I reading too much into that or is that hinting that he may not be the actual MCU Reed?

Interesting choice of words. That makes it sound like we're definitely not getting him as the main universe Reed.

Your post wasn't here when I first opened this thread.

It would be weird if Mr Fantastic is the ONLY character to have an actor swap from that universe.

I’m gonna go out an a massive limb and say Patrick Stewart will not be the 616 Xavier.

I don’t care that it isn’t “going anywhere” it’s just exhausting having to watch 4 movies a year when maybe one is good or interesting and now they’re pumping out 4 or 5 shows a year that might have one stupid scene that relates to some movie down the line. It’s exhausting. Just give us stand alone movies and shows.

I more or less quit after Endgame and don't regret it. I'll randomly watch one of the newer movies every so often, but I don't even try to keep up.

yeah my dumb brain made me keep up for awhile but I’ve basically stopped unless something seems interesting enough or I’m bored and it’s on Disney+

If it's just fan service that Feige wanted to fulfill then okay. He is only in MOM for a few minutes so it doesn't really matter. So long as they get a good actor for the 199999 version then it's all good.

No need to really keep up with phase 4 because only WandaVision and MOM have actually tied together. Everything else is pretty standalone, although, it's rumored that Wong will reappear in She-Hulk as Abomination's trainer/mentor, which was previously shown in Shang-Chi.

Ms Marvel will be in the Marvels and Kang will be in Ant-Man 3, so maybe you'll need a recap of Ms Marvel and the final episode of Loki, but that's it. The extent of knowledge you'd need from both is still unknown

If you’re finding anything about the MCU exhausting, I think it’s time to set it to one side and try something else.
