I think I've already said more than enough on my point of view. I'm just going to let Marvel do their thing and enjoy the ride.

I’m happy for Kathryn Hahn and maybe it will be good, but I think the show slid downhill after we found out it was Agatha all along. Disney’s Marvel shows in general have trouble sustaining an engaging narrative in TV show form. Maybe that’s a hot take. And I’ll say I have nothing against Marvel and generally enjoy their movies.

But this is Marvel Studios and leading to a big movie is their thing. That’s part of why all of this feels so unnecessary.

Either let the audience know what the movies and shows are building to or don’t do it and let each film/show be its own thing.

Now we’re at 8 projects a year (the same amount of projects over a 4 year period that stretched from the Infinity War announcement to the actual release) and audiences still don’t really understand what’s going on or where it’s going…that’s not a good formula, imo.

Peak MCU will forever be The Infinity Saga it seems.

I guess I don't really care if that's "their thing". They already did that thing. Just explore the universe and tell good stories for a while

That’s the problem though, these movies always have to be building to something and connecting to the other movies. That’s why directors end up bailing, because they’re forced to keep building to this “thing” that is currently very unclear.

I’m fine with totally stand alone stories with these characters and bringing in directors with their own style to make it interesting, but that’s not what the MCU is about. They’re just meant to be serviceable and advance the overall arc

Yes, the problem is phase 4 is still operating with the mentality that they need to be building towards something even though they're really not building towards anything. The solution, though, shouldn't be to just start building towards the next universe threatening event. It should be to stop thinking like that. They've already done the "everything is connected and building towards this huge event" thing. Why immediately start doing it again? Take a breather and just flesh out the universe for a while.

Marvel can for sure make some solid films post-Endgame. Shang-Chi was the best solo film since Black Panther, maybe even since Ragnorak.

I loved Shang Chi but I don't know that I'd go that far

Since BP we've had Ant-Man 2, Captain Marvel, FFH, Black Widow, Eternals, NWH, and MOM.

As a stand alone Shang-Chi left me the most satisfied and with a desire for more, imo. NWH is second best and did leave wanting more....of a Peter that is different from the one in the film. If shows count then Loki would probably move past NWH, maybe even Shang-Chi.

Yeah I liked NWH more than Shang-Chi, but the rest of the competition isn't exactly super tough

True lol They're the only 2 I would give a 7.5 or 8. Possibly the only 2 I would enjoy multiple rewatches of.

Tbh I liked all of those movies either equally or more than Shang Chi, aside from Black Widow and maybe Eternals (which honestly is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be). Point taken, though!

Marvel Writer: Fans Should Be Excited for "F-ing Awesome" X-Men '97 (Exclusive)

"Beau DeMayo, who’s doing X-Men ’97, is one of the best writers I have ever worked with in my life. He’s an absolute genius. And the other day, we had our writers’ dinner, and he was telling me some of the things they have planned for X-Men ’97. I can’t say a single thing, except you guys have no idea how excited you should be for that show.”

You know what’s a good movie?

    Sam Raimi’s Darkman.

Raimi’s sensibilities are just so right for these kinda pulpy genre films. Hope he lands on another project he wants to do sooner than later.

Fuckin' love Darkman. It's so goofy sometimes but overall just a great fun movie.

It just has the perfect blend of absurdity and sincerity for the genre. These days, the temptation of embracing either “realism” or irony would get in the way of letting it be what it needs to be, as a love letter to both pulp heroes (specifically The Shadow, who Raimi was pitching for at the time) and classic Universal monster movies. And, Liam Neeson has exactly the right tragic romantic tone, played mostly straight but willing to get batshit when the scene demands it.
