had a real good time with this especially with all the Raimi quirks. Murking the Illuminati was hilarious

I think it’s funny that, in the earliest stages of this film, I was dreading yet another evil Wanda story, but that ended up being my favorite part of this.

Part of that is me no longer being invested in The Marvel Cinematic Universe™, which means I don’t have to think about what this means for future projects. I can think of comics material that can be mined into a next step for this Wanda, but unless it’s in a film with creatives and a direction that appeal to me in the moment, it doesn’t matter. I’m just taking or leaving each thing on its own terms, and this one was fun! So whatever.

And, another part is me being primed to like a superhero tale about a powerful, tragic, camp villainess. Wanda’s bit about sacrificing everything “and it meant nothing” speaks to me in a similar way to Madelyne Pryor in those great Chris Claremont comics. Or, even Polaris going ~crazy~ in those bad-but-fun Chuck Austen comics! Comics Wanda was never really all that fun when evil (ew John Byrne), but Sam & Liz tapped into the right energy for me.

One thing I appreciated with this film is that the events of Thanos are still having major impacts on the MCU 4 years after Infinity War. He must have been name dropped in this film a dozen times.

I wish we could have seen how Strange confronted Wanda if he still had the time stone. Pulling a time loop on her would have been good to see, but we can’t because Thanos (once again) destroyed the stone. Almost every major turning point in this film was indirectly caused by Thanos’ actions.

As someone who works with teenagers, she looked exactly her age. She was also so great in season 1 of the Babysitter's Club, she was my favorite of that cast so I was excited to see her do such a great job here.

She did great in this, but I wish her character wasn't basically just relegated to being a plot device. They're really gonna have to get the Young Avengers project goin cause I need more America (and Kate Bishop) content ASAP

I really loved America’s character/Xochitl’s performance in this. Looking forward to more of her.

Did not like the script they gave her, and her performance was just ok imo. Wish there was a little more for her to work with, but the movie was already cramped enough lol

Just saw for a second time, can anyone tell me what Christine says when she grabs the lantern/torch thing near the end?

There’s something oddly funny about this movie coming out not only on Mother’s Day weekend, but also in mental health awareness month.

A mother with, let’s say, poor mental health decides (with some influence from the Darkhold) to murder a child to see a different version of her children that aren’t actually hers. She will kill anyone else in her way and likely have to kill their actual mother. Ultimately, the only option for this unwell mother is to die.

    Happy mother’s day weekend!

Wanda’s only “dead” until they want to use her again lol no body no permanent death

Wanda obviously isn't dead as far as the larger MCU is concerned, but as far as this story is concerned, she is

After seeing it again, Wanda is not actually the villain, the villain is the Darkhold itself. It is responsible for corrupting Wanda, it causes the fall of the Illuminati Strange and 616 Strange’s strife with them, and it corrupts the Incursion Strange who shows 616 Strange what he could become. Wanda would not be doing what she’s doing if it hadn’t destroyed her morality first.

I’d like to believe that. But someone on twitter said the same thing but also said that WandaVision showed she was on a collision course for turning full blown evil. Which is somehow supposed to make me feel okay that she died. But our Strange uses it and we learn from Clea that he caused an incursion. Rather than condemning him for destroying two universes she’s like, “you’re gonna help fix this shit.” One would imagination an incredible amount of mass destruction and death occurred. How does one fix that? Why does Wanda not get a chance to fix her mess if the true origin of evil was the Darkhold? Why does she not apply to the “not all those who stumble are lost” concept? Their intentions were different obviously. One was selfish and the other in an attempt to save the entire multiverse. Is that why our Strange is allowed to stumble? I guess you could argue Wanda stumbled twice with Westview, then her actions here. But it didn’t seem like their was a “but if you stumble again, you’re fucking dead” left unsaid by Charles.

Not entirely true. We’ve seen in WandaVision that she will do horrid things like taking a town hostage without influence from the darkhold
