In the five(!) years since the perfect credits of Guardians 2, there have only been a few Marvel Studios credit scenes that weren’t a waste of time: the reveal of Harry Styles as Starfox, Eddie Brock drunkenly rambling about aliens, and an ant playing drums.

Hopefully this one has another good one.

given one of the items you have filed under good post-credits, i guess i’d say there’s a strong chance you’ll like it

This was a lot of really dope scenes strung together by a story I did not care much about

God dammit. Just saw a spoiler on twitter that I didn’t want to know about. An hour from my screening. Fucking assholes.

Oh god, we got a trailer for some conspiracy nut job documentary. It has the like worst clunkiest last line of a trailer I have ever heard. Why are theaters letting this garbage screen? Gross.

I’ll post thoughts later, but I really enjoyed this.

for now I’m waiting for the post credit scene. So I’ll quickly say that the music fight was very cool. Some dumb kid was in front of me and stood up and blocked some of the screen like 30 times, I blame the mom for not stopping it.

and as was discussed elsewhere, I am always cautious in the theaters and always think about what I’d do if there was a shooter. Fun part about this screening, there was someone with a gun. Somebody told the employees and they mocked him and called him a freak behind his back. I overheard when I went to the rest room during trailers. While it’s legal in Florida to do this, it’s against Regal policy. So that’s fucking cool.

I'm parsing this and trying to make sure I'm following correctly.

You're saying there was an audience member with a gun? And someone told the employees and then made fun of them, but what happened to them? Were they removed by police? Or what actually happened here?

Sorry, I rushed the end because the credits were ending and I didn’t want to miss part of the post credits for this. They were conceal carrying legally. Nothing happened, thank god. I guess I should have said that up front. They were not asked to leave. The employee disregarded the concern the other guy brought to him.

Okay, done with dinner and all that and have time to share some thoughts.

overall, I really enjoyed it and had a fun time watching the movie.

like I said before, the music fight was pretty cool. One nice thing about the action when Strange is involved you never know what he’ll do. I do think that they really went for more creative magic for this one though. I feel like before it was generally the same kind of spells with the mini shields and rope and such. But here there are multiple weapons they form at times, the sawing of the bus, the snakes he shoots at Wanda, there’s the hands that throw the lamp post through the eye, stuff like that. I also enjoyed that they went out of their way to give us a down and dirty hand to hand fight between Strange and Mordo when they both have a cuff on and can’t do magic. Really respect the creativity they had with the action here.

Also liked that again they found a way to Not just have the final fight just be punching each other or even it being simply throwing spells at one another. Having Strange inhabit his other dead body to basically be a zombie was rad. Then using the souls of the damned (whatever that actually means) as weapons was fun. Then with America starting to try punching it out and instead decides that showing Wands the true villain she’s become is the solution rather than trying to kill her or at least punch her out of commission.

really dug the more subtle character work with our Strange and seeing his other selves and therefore what he could become. Not really being at peace for giving Thanos the time stone despite it being the only way. Having to deal with and process not only losing 5 years of life himself, but allowing it do happen to half the universe too along with destroying the lives of those left behind who suddenly have to suddenly see those they lost again after 5 years of living their lives and finding a new way forward. On top of that, can he even truly be happy having been a part of that? Mix in the Christine dynamic and even the dynamic with America and there is some great character stuff going on.

I really liked America here. I know nothing about the character except her power was traveling across universes. Didn’t learn a lot about her as she was essentially the macguffin of the movie. She comes across as someone in their 20’s to me but everyone keeps calling her kid and child. I also thought she was an lgbtq+ character? But unless I missed something her moms were, but her identity is not disclosed in any direction. Her dynamic with Strange and her finding belief in herself through it was solid. Hope to see more of her soon, as it seems like the madness of the multiverse is just getting started with that mid credits scene.

Wanda… I am torn on Wanda. On one hand, seeing her go full blown with her power was fun to see. On the other hand, I wish she had been more like a villain in the way Magneto was in First Class. Where she seemingly has good intentions and is a good guy, only for her to reveal towards the end how far her plans really go and what she’s willing to do achieve them. Instead we find out she is now fully evil at end of her first scene with Strange. It felt like an abrupt but logical next step after WandaVision, but it feels like a step is missing to really sell the dive off the deep end. They do explain it as the Darkhold corrupting her. So it does add up, I just felt like it was a very fast turn for the audience. Going from someone who did bad things to cope with legitimate grief and trauma but eventually comes to her senses to suddenly being evil and doing anything it takes no matter how bad to get to “her” children with no remorse. Also not a huge fan of her dying. Would have liked a redemption arc for her. Having her story be how deep trauma and grief can cause us to do bad things and throw in the Darkhold and it pushes you over the edge. I don’t feel the Darkhold was shown as being the reason she went so bad, it had an effect but it comes across more that she just lost it and it is more a source of unstoppable power rather than the reason behind her acts. She was less relatable for me because of this. I think WandaVision handled that aspect better. But that aside, she was a solid villain still and her wrecking shit was great, especially taking out the Illuminati. Forcing Black Bolt to essentially blow his own brains out was brutal. And the spaghetti Reed with his head exploding I believe, after telling him at least his kids will have their mother. That’s cold. Peggy getting cut in half by her shield. Captain Marvels death was pretty tame. Snapping Xavier’s neck wasn’t that out there either. I guess in the end she does have a moment of redemption of somehow destroying all the Darkholds in existence so no one else can wield that power. But, she does make the assumption that there are not other thrones with the Darkhold transcribed on its walls in any other multiverse. Guess she didn’t fully think that through. Oopsies.

As for the Illuminati, well, they seem to be a bunch of dicks who killed their friend who had fallen and asked for help. So them dying felt appropriate as they didn’t seem to learn from that. Minus Charles, who at least at this time realized those who stumble are not lost causes. Unfortunately for him, he got in Wanda’s way. Krasinski was fine, didn’t have much to go with. Black Bolt was there. He said 2 words and looked super cocky right before Wanda smokes him. Captain Marvel wasn’t much either. Peggy got a couple solid moments and I liked the “I can do this all day” line. Sadly, she could not do that all day. I wanted her to somehow live. Oh well. Xavier could have been spared, but him going out trying to save his Wanda and not taking out our Wanda was decent.

I don’t really have anything to say about Wong. He served his role here just fine. Yea.

sad to see Mcadams not have much to do again, but her presence is always appreciated.

I had absolutely no idea who Charlize Theron was supposed to be. Had to google that shit.

The post credit scene was funny. But not important in any way.

Also, it’s interesting that Feige said that Loki allowed this to happen because it’s what allowed the No Way Home spell to go wrong that lead to this movie… but, I’d argue this has nothing to do with Loki or No Way Home. The multiverse existed before the Loki stuff. America existed before Loki. I guess it’s not explained how Wanda knew about America and her powers, but I don’t see Loki explaining that. Wanda going for America kicks off the multiverse stuff for this movie.

That’s all for now. I’m sure I’ll have more thoughts as others share theirs.

  25. I’m interested in what cameos might’ve not made it in.

There was a long list of rumored ones (some by people that nailed a large majority of the big plot points in the film) and it seems like most of them ended up not being correct.
