Not surprised. Cautiously optimistic what they might do with it.

  7. when they slot a movie like that, do they have an idea of what it will be? or is it just like "okay we need a movie for 5/27/22 what can we make"

There are definitely plans in place. We know at least one of those is Hunchback. I think the biggest question mark for them is securing directors and leads.

Are these live action remakes really that successful? I feel like everyone I know always talks about how stupid it is and that they're ruining childhood films lol. I know I have zero desire to watch any of these

They have high budgets, but worldwide totals have been...

Alice in Wonderland - $1.025 billion
    Maleficent - $758 million
    Jungle Book - $966 million
Beauty and the Beast - $1.263 billion

    Some were bombs though...

Alice Through the Looking Glass - $300 million
    Dumbo - $344 million

    One was possibly even/somewhat profitable

Christopher Robin - $197 million (Great movie though!)

Basically, if Tim Burton isn't involved, they've been doing well. Even so, I think the best is yet to come on these live action films too. I really think Lion King will beat all of these films and make $1.3-1.5 billion.

Is there a specific reason why they’re making so many live action movies? Like that’s cool but I’d rather see more animated movies.

It feels like the live action rollouts haven't had huge marketing behind them. It was weird seeing how late the Aladdin promotional stuff started to come out. Really excited for Mulan though.

It felt like they might've had to adjust things since there was a backlash against Will Smith's Genie. Otherwise, I think they've been pacing based on all the properties they had coming through. There's been such a consistent push where, after opening weekend of one property, they immediately start pushing the next one. Recently, it was Endgame transitioning to Aladdin and, now, Toy Story 4 is really picking up. I really expect them to start the promotion of Lion King around the time the NBA Finals picks up on their own ABC.

As for Mulan, I'm sure we'll get an announcement of who is voicing Mushu and a teaser/first trailer just before Lion King releases. Either way, I'm excited for that one too. Though, I really hope they don't move forward with Kevin Hart as Mushu, which they might've done and held off from announcing due to the backlash he was getting in the early parts of the year.

Kevin Hart? I am not a fan of that at all. Having a full cast of Chinese actors and then hearing his voice would throw me out.

Yep. It's been rumored for awhile now.
Rumor: 'Mulan' Reboot Looking to Kevin Hart to Play Mushu

It's not that different from the animated version since Eddie Murphy was Mushu before and it's pretty clear they are going with Mushu as comic relief again. I'm just not a fan of Kevin Hart. If they did want to keep him non-Asian, someone like Jamie Foxx or Anthony Anderson would feel better. Otherwise, it would actually be pretty cool if they got Ken Jeong for the role.

Jeong would be cool as well as Foxx if they insist on getting a non-Asian voice actor. Foxx at least has a tolerable voice that doesn’t make me want to plug my ears.

That looks to be of the same quality as the animated Godzilla series.
