Well that's what happens when you comment without watching the video lol.

    Yes.

    Not really.

I hate feeling like I'm defending him, because I'm not a fan and feel like in the whole realm of comedy he could have made his "points" any other way than to do what he did, but this is more about everyone jumping on the hate bandwagon without even knowing the whole situation.

The only person with jump cut editing I really like on youtube is Jeremy Jons.

  3. The situation is he made dumb Nazi jokes and his child-oriented sponsors realized they didn't want children to watch those videos, or to be themselves associated with them. I don't really care about context. The claim is not that he is personally a racist, that does not matter. The claim is that he made dumb and bad Nazi jokes. Which he did. And lost money over.

I tried watching the video. I gained nothing. He's wrong. He keeps characterizing the real issue being that the "media" is calling Pewdiepie racist or a Nazi, and that's why Disney and YouTube cut ties with him, but that's not the case. Disney cut ties with him before the WSJ piece. WSJ was reporting on Disney ending their relationship. They didn't call him a racist or a nazi. He made shitty jokes using Nazi imagery and anti-semitic language. People didn't like that, and Disney and YouTube acted because of that. Why would you say "not really" in response to "he suffered consequences"? He did. Disney ended their relationship, YouTube canceled his show on YouTube Red. Sure he's seeing a surge in popularity because of all the attention, but he lost tangible opportunities and parts of that new attention are coming from hate groups.

You should read the article that @lightning13 posted and that dork mischaracterizes in his video

PewDiePie versus the media: Why he’s so mad to be losing the fight

It's far more in-depth than a 9 minute YouTuber getting all pissy at "the media".

I meant not suffering the consequences because his subscription numbers have spiked up, he's probably getting offers from a ton of places and honestly he never has to work a day in his life again if he chose not to.

I read it before I saw the video. I seem to be more in the middle of this, certainly not on his side so I'm not dying on this hill. I love that you called him a dork though lol.

I guess it's difficult for me to see a middle in this situation when one side is a very rich, famous, white guy who got in trouble for making empty shock jokes using swastikas and "Death to all Jews".

The middle is that one was to prove how ridiculous a site is and what people are willing to do for money, another was comparing the Youtube Heroes thing to Nazis. All which fall under comedy and parody and satire. But on the other side like we've all already stated is that he could have used almost anything else to compare those situations to and it wasn't funny and he should have known what he was doing so there is no feeling sorry for him. See, two sides with points. That's why I'm middle :-)

I'm not sure I understand your position. Anything can be labeled comedy or satire. Comedy and satire can be unfunny. They can be bad. They can be harmful. They can be empty. His was. Companies can choose to no longer work with someone who puts out content they find disagreeable. They did. He's not being treated unfairly by the media, they're reporting on what he did and writing opinion pieces on what he did. He's not a victim here.

You are confused because even though I've stated otherwise, you think I am defending him and saying he's a victim. Most the articles and media pieces clip out sergeants, leaving out context and using click bait titles so I do think the media is a little unfair. But hey, that's the game and once again in case it wasn't clear, he got what was coming and he even admits it.

Please be kind. Like actually kind though.

Regardless of whether you stand with or against Pewdiepie the mainstream media is not reporting honestly on the situation and it makes it almost impossible to have a discussion about the real issues here.

A couple of questions: Who is "the mainstream media" you are referring to? Is it the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Polygon, or something else?

Also how is the information not being reported by the "mainstream media" honestly? What do you think the omission or subterfuge is that is being perpetrated to distract from?

What are the real issues in this that are impossible to discuss?

But you are saying he's a victim. You're saying the media is being unfair to him and his jokes are being presented out of context.

Oh, yeah I can see that point. How do I word it in a way where I don't feel sorry for him and he deserves to have his funding pulled but also that the media isn't being completely honest? Also like I said before I don't want to die on this hill, can we debate movies instead? I enjoy those conversations better.

Probably not fair, but after the shenanigans of the last year, when I see arguments concerning "journalistic integrity", and the gaming industry, I can't help but think of gamergate cretins.

  20. Oh for fuck's sake, 11 minutes ? I have better things to do than watch someone play the victim, making excuses, and not getting to the whole point, which is that he did so much harm, that he should apologize, and idk... that he should redirect his fans to charities and stuff related to the case. 11 minutes seems way overexaggerated. Please someone gives us a summary.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but I am equally as pissed off at him for using poor people to do his bidding, the guy has millions and only pays someone $5 to do something stupid.
