    Fight the long defeat.

True - I'll gladly eat my words if I'm found jumping to conclusions later, and maybe I was. The pattern just feels a little predictable these days, which is unfortunate from the studio that was once the gold standard for this sort of thing.

    I really liked this.

The character of Wade could've used a bit more development, and the plot was very thin, but it was overall a nice watch, with a lovely soundtrack, and some Pixar feels that I found Wall-E'esque.

Not top-tier Pixar, but sits nicely somewhere in the middle.

I’ve seen every Pixar movie except for “Cars 2” and I’m having trouble finding the motivation to see this.

also the Globby thing where they give the lbtgq character one line to remove it for foreign audiences was so apparent

This was a cute story with lots of great background gags, and definitely was more layered and nuanced than just opposites attract like the trailer suggested. Not the best pixar offering, but certainly deserves better than it did at the box office.

And now the whole 'non-binbary character in new Pixar movies shows go woke go broke' nonsense is annoying. I didn't catch it, and it's a small character and has nothing to do with why the movie didn't perform well.

Maybe people just thought the trailer made it seem too simplistic and like a story we've all seen before. It wasn't ground breaking, but it definitely told a better and more complex story than I expected.

    I'd give it a 33/39 or an 8.5.

Wife and I just saw this and loved it. Honestly don’t get why this is underperforming so much as we both really connected with it.

Took our kids to see this tonight and, you know, the trailers really didn’t do much for me at all but I was pleasantly surprised by this. Several moments I was very moved by and right when I started thinking “compared to things like Spider-Verse, Mitchells vs. The Machines, Nimona, the new Ninja Turtles movie, Laika films, etc., the Pixar animation formula is starting to feel a little…stale?”, this thing hit me with shots like Ember and Wade hovering over the city in the hot air balloon, Ember walking under the bridge as the water falls around her, the flower tree underwater, etc. Just gorgeous stuff.

I sort of looked at this as a “wait for Disney+” type of film but I may take my kids on a cheap day

  24. I thought this was really cute. And there a lot of subtle, little moments of really cool animation.
