I was just about to get on discogs the other day to catalog my collection so I can start to sell some. I could see someone like spotify acquiring discogs.

Yeah, I completely stopped selling on Discogs recently after an international transaction resulted in 35% of the revenue being lost to fees.

Yikes. I really like discogs, but i don't use it much for buying or selling. I'm mostly cataloging and finding out which pressing/variant i want based on reviews.

It's a great site for cataloging and finding out detailed info about releases, I agree. But I wouldn't be surprised if there was, and continues to be, a migration to eBay for selling. When Discogs raised their fees and started applying the fees to the cost of shipping, it became no better than eBay and eBay has a much wider net for selling. The article above quotes at least one person as saying they have twice as many sales on eBay as Discogs and that is very accurate from my experience.
