Very fun movie. Emily absolutely was in her bag. Thought the pacing was clunky at first but it settled into a nice rhythm. My take on the second in command baddie was that he was literally too cold blooded and determined to stop Emily for her to work on him. The cgi was not great for the animals but for the aliens it looked good. They got some moist ass eyes. The bad animal CGI could be regarded as intentional considering they’re presented as not really there. Obviously that’s not true. Some of those shots that tetra noted were great as was a lot of the chase sequences. Very good angles and tracking.
Also holy shit we were trying not to laugh at a Jimmy Stewart biopic trailer before the movie. His accent was just laughable out of place where it seemed everyone else was speaking like present day lol.
The shot of Josh O’Connor running along the fence and then the camera goes over his shoulder and through the fence was awesome.
I keep seeing a trailer for a movie where single people can only have sex once a year or something. Basically The Purge for hookups.
I liked the movie but did not love it. It started really strong, then then the tone shifted and ended in a kind of bland way for me. The first hour or so was incredible and there were some shots that made me remember how great Spielberg is.
Had a ton of fun watching this in IMAX over the weekend. Everything looked great minus the animal cgi, but overall feeling more mixed on it the longer I think about it. Just too many things stuffed into this for everything to work well. Most of the characters outside of Emily Blunt felt underdeveloped for me.
My favorite part was the ending when Emily Blunt says "listen" and then Aliens Exist plays as the credits roll.
The more I think about this, the more I adore it. Would love to see it a second time knowing the whole picture, so that I can take in how everything works together thematically.
