Loved this thing. Great pacing imo, feels propulsive from the start, with exactly the right approach to tension and rollout of information. And, some great silly bits, like trying to run over the phone and the agents stumbling over the invisible house. That panic attack scene also really hit for me. This might be more of an indictment of Hollywood than just a compliment for this specific movie, though it’s also famously a Spielberg strength in general. But, it’s just nice watching an exhilarating genre movie on the big screen by someone who knows how movies should be filmed, lol.
Also, you can’t tell me Firth’s character and Domingo’s character aren’t in love, Magneto/Xavier-style.
You can have (well, have had) a wife and still also have a boyfriend. I’m not and never have been someone who’s into fanfic, but I want to believe there are people doing good work with those two men.
I didn’t like this as much as the rest of this forum. But talking about not liking it with other people on the Internet is like watching Cinemasins. Too many people hung up on the government agents being incompetent (they always are in Spielberg movies), the CGI and people watching the news on their phone. Like, there are flaws with the film and those don’t even cross my mind as problems.
Well this was certainly a day, and they definitely disclosed it. I enjoyed it. I thought Emily Blunt sold the hell out of her performance and I can't stop thinking about that alien grandpa's big soulful eyes. Also props to that other anchor at the end, I thought she gave a great performance too, sold me that this was someone shocked by what they're reporting in real-time. My only criticism is some of the theological discussion at the beginning, the dialogue felt super clunky. Took me out a little. Overall though, a great time at the movies.
On one hand, the world would definitely care about aliens existing. On the other hand, like 90% wouldn’t care about their treatment. They don’t even care about war and genocide on humans
I said as much upon leaving this, I wish I could believe we'd have that much empathy, but alas, we can only dream of spring.
Thinking more on it, even if it's an unbelievable take on how humanity would respond to aliens, I'm glad it's that way, because it's what should be true. Maybe if we shove it enough in people's faces, it'll rub off on them. Probably not, but there's value in the attempt.
Invisible house being kinda slapstick or whatever while still having tension and stakes was great. Everything about it handled invisibility in such a fun, interesting way.
