Just got home after seeing Disclosure Day and it's brilliant and Emily Blunt is definitely gonna back in the awards race because her performance was incredible!
Two ridiculous things though - that everyone would be watching a live stream of the news on their phones (are all these people using the Youtube app on their phones to watch, despite most news networks not normally having live streams of their networks on Youtube?), and the people in the plane also all watching live streams on their phones (did they all pay $20 for the GoGo in-flight wifi??, despite live streams normally not being something you can watch on flights??).
Not sure what you mean. Basically every major US news outlet has a 24/7 YouTube livestream. The only one who doesn't is CNN, but NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox all have it.
Really enjoyed this. Blunt and Domingo are excellent. Takes a little bit to get going, but what a ride once it does
Man this rocked. Long Island representation as well, the opening scene wrestling match was filmed at The Paramount on long island. steve did it again baby.
liked this a lot. definitely not my favorite Spielberg alien film, and i could've done with some better CGI work and a few less navel-gazey bits of dialogue, but the heart and themes really hit home for me, and the acting was really fucking solid (although a few actors felt a bit under-utilized). solid 8/10 for me.
A lot to love, but also a lot to groan at. Beginning was good, end was good / excellent but i definitely had complaints during the middle. As with all blockbusters, a lot of corn that some may or may not like, and some handwaving / dont think too hard plot strokes.
I liked it, didn't love it. Some really great parts, but overall was a little underwhelmed. Maybe because of the hype. I get it was exciting for Spielberg to make a movie like this again, but it was lacking some of that magic for me. My sister made an observation on our way home that got me thinking. Is part of the magic and wonder in other movies because children are involved? So it comes across as less cheesy. The kids in ET or Jurassic Park, Cruise and his daughter in War of the Worlds, even the pre-cog in Minority Report is childlike. So did this feel different since we just jump in with two adults and their significant others? I don't know. But Blunt was definitely amazing and that was not overhyped. She is a phenomenal actress.
I saw a comment in this thread about this not being their top Spielberg "alien" movie and I don't even think it would be top 3 for me. Have a lot of issues with the story. I don't think Koepp is a good writer to begin with though so that doesn't help but I had hoped that it would be a return to form for both since they have a decent history together. Noah spends how much time in Jane's body to get information but then as soon as she runs off with the 2nd artifact he forgets that she is a character? Actually the entire film forgets that she is a character after she leaves the hotel! And then she just pushes her way through all the people that were trying to catch her at the end to walk right up to Emily Blunt? And never mind the fact that Jane actually never witnessed the power of the artifact so she has no idea what she is even carrying around and yet, she knows to give it to Emily Blunt after disappearing for the last half of the movie... the artifact itself is another thing that seems to have endless power but also expires? Honestly it reminded me of my least liked Nolan films like Tenet and Inception where there is some cool shit going on but only as long as you don't think too much about any of it!
Same for southwest. Think every flight has free wifi for rewards members (which is free to sign up for) and free live tv (if you aren't a member)
i thought the woman who played the news anchor who was seemingly thrust into delivering this all to the world did a great job showing that kind of emotion.
As a Kansas City resident, I can confirm that the entire world tunes into the local KC news broadcasts every night.
