The band is releasing 5 EPs this year, one for each singer in the band and one with all 4 trading verses.

windows open is the best they’ve sounded in years. little less stoked on this new one but the first half had its moments. dave’s clearly rejuvenated and in good company so i bet these eps have some great cuts

also maia was in the band bobby with the folks who went on to form sylvan esso and currently is in two really cool bands called toebow and uni ika ai.

felicia’s project ava luna has some great songwriting as well for anyone curious

I am very interested! "Bobby" is the name of the first band? and then Toebow and Uni Ika Ai? Then Ava Luna?

lol yeah my formatting is shit but you got it. Bobby I only know about based on what their members ended up doing but have never really listened.

I've played with Toebow before, it's everyone from the band bobby except the sylvan esso duo, they're all fantastic people and players. Really anthemic yet technical funk-pop stuff, their album Themes from last year is super cool. The other project Uni Ika Ai seems to be inactive these days, but this came out in 2016 and is a cloudier dream-pop kind of thing.

Ava Luna released Moon 2 last year, that's my fave record of theirs. 3 primary songwriters, 3 lead vocalists, lot of great harmonies. Pushes up against like San Fermin and maybe Head and the Heart a little bit while also drawing comparisons imo to Dirty Projectors more than any of the other stuff I've mentioned here.

    hope you dig!

Yeah, Ava Luna is great. If you like Dirty Projectors, you’ll probably find something to like in their stuff too.

oh wow, I guess the whole 20-song project is out Nov 13 and called 5EPs, which is strikingly similar to what I named this thread already... 5 EPs.

they've all been short but this one in particular felt like it flew by. didn't give it a focused listen yet, but peripherally felt like it was fine. i've never been a huge cuddle magic person, though, so i don't immediately take to kristen's voice the way i do with maia and felicia

Honestly, the new one might be my favorite style-wise. But yes, very much feels like the shortest of them all

the final EP is pretty good overall, but I was kinda hoping this would be the one to WOW me. Solid project overall, at least 1-2 great songs per EP so I'm happy

    Maybe so, maybe not.

Didn't see it in here but the Chromeo "Lose Your Love" remix bangs.

honestly have come around to a majority of all five of these eps and feel like Dave and the band overall sound quite rejuvenated. i believe this iteration of DP has a grand statement in them, and this release seems like the testing ground for figuring out of what that could be and more importantly, what exactly these members are capable of together...exciting stuff!

oh whoops, also the hook on 'there i said it' is a goddamned hook and 'on the breeze' is a hell of an opener
