I spent years avoiding Lebowski bc of the hype from its annoying bro-y fanbase and then I watched it for the first time last year and it was somehow even funnier than they said it was
The Big Lebowski fanbase is pretty terrible, but compared to a lot of the other hysterical ones they are harmless.
Fargo, No Country, Lebowski, Llewyn Davis, and O Brother are perfect movies. Most directors would be lucky to make one of them. And the rest of their filmography is nearly as good (minus a couple duds). The consistency of their quality is remarkable.
1. The Big Lebowski 2. No Country for Old Men 3. A Serious Man 4. Inside Llewyn Davis 5. Barton Fink 6. Fargo 7. Miller's Crossing 8. Burn After Reading 9. True Grit 10. The Man Who Wasn't There 11. O Brother, Where Art Thou? 12. Blood Simple 13. Raising Arizona 14. Hail Caesar! 15. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs 16. Intolerable Cruelty 17. The Hudsucker Proxy 18. The Ladykillers
How many other directors have the batting average that they have? Maybe 3 movies out of 18 that aren’t great, so 1/6? The only ones I can think of that come close to that are much less prolific, like Kubrick or PTA
We watched O'Brother Where Art Thou in 9th grade English after we read The Odyssey. Our teacher loved Man of Constant Sorrow, so we would frequently restart the movie from that part. It took us like a month to watch.
I rented it with my dad when it came out and the very next day he went to the mall and bought the soundtrack
The lack of a traditional score in No Country is still just so impressive to me, such effective and palpable tensions throughout
wow way less people loving Barton Fink than I thought in here honestly think it's one of the greatest ever
