On something like a formal list I am going to gravitate more toward the canon. If I was down to two or three spots it is hard to put on Terminator 2 and leave off a second-tier Fellini or Ozu or Tarkovsky. However, which one might I sit down and watch more often? That is a different story.
I did a whole 100 back in 2024. They take a long time and I can't think of anything that has monumentally changed since then. I have been paying more attention to video games the last few years.
Feels unfair because I know about Spielbergs process than Cameron's but it's easily Spielberg for me. His ability to plan shots on the ground is astounding.
I don’t think Cameron has it in him to make something like Schindler’s List or Saving Private Ryan He’s going to desperately try with Ghosts of Hiroshima
I would love to hear them. I am trying to focus on filling out the canon but I get stuck trying to complete whole franchises.
That is the one thing Cameron will never have over Spielberg; the respectability that transcends art. Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan feel almost documentary-like in their reverence. Jurassic Park is how we see dinosaurs. E.T. might be goofy but Close Encounters is what we feel would be most likely.
1. Schindler's List 2. Avatar: The Way of Water 3. Aliens 4. Saving Private Ryan 5. The Fabelmans 6. Jurassic Park 7. Titanic 8. Raiders of the Lost Ark 9. Terminator 2 10. Minority Report Would be my top 10 for them, I'd probably pick Spielberg overall but there's a lot from both that I either haven't seen or haven't seen in a long time.
