Director Poll: Favorite Darren Aronofsky Film

Hard to say completely but I think it's gotta be The Fountain these days. Never saw Noah, but The Wrestler is definitely my least favorite of the rest.

Fountain > Requiem > Swan > mother > pi > Wrestler

or something like that

 

fountain is my favorite so i picked it. black swan, it and requiem are the only ones of his I find all that engaging/good.

noah and mother are abominations. pi and the wrestler are just kinda there.

The Wrestler is the only good film he has ever made, so it is not much of a choice. mother! is one of the all-time worst movies.

The Fountain is one of my favourite films of all time so it's a no brainer that is my favourite Aronofsky.

I've enjoyed everything he has put out, though I haven't seen Black Swan, The Wrestler and Pi in over 10 years. This poll has inspired me to revisit them all again.

I think my nostalgia glasses rankings would probably order it something like this...

The Fountain > Requiem for a Dream > Black Swan > The Wrestler > Mother! > Noah > Pi

 

There is a lot of cliche in it, but there is a heart to it that is rare in most films. The Ram's final speech is a powerful scene.

I really need to watch mother! someday. Sounds like such a wonderful creative trainwreck.

 

I haven't seen The Fountain or Noah, but it's a tie between Black Swan and Pi for me. Rewatched Pi recently for the first time since high school and it is very good. The hate for Mother is, as Steve said, completely overblown. It's a good film.

I could see a woman watching this on a plane a few rows ahead of me, with that scene coming. She flinched in disgust and turned it off, which is the reaction that Aronofsky wanted. He thinks that shocking people is a virtue by itself. It is like a twelve year old cursing.

 

I don’t remember anything about mother.

 

Noah was really bad and stupid.
