yeah no, none sound the same to me either it was more of a stray thought than any sort of accusation. yeah, the melody is what makes his solos special to me, it's why he and Doug Martsch are two of my faves in that department. they're just so well thought out "don't" is my fave I think
Man, that song is so good. Super sad song about when his father passed. It must have been used in a film or tv show.
I've heard some of J's solo songs and I'm p interested in delving into that, anyone got a recommended starting point? or should I just start from the beginning?
I've only listened to the last three and I like them all. They all have a similar vibe, like one you'll probably like them all. The song Every Morning from Tied To A Star is especially good I think.
thanks! I'll start with that record and delve into the most recent one after since I think that one has the most songs I've heard
been spending the day with the 90s records since i don't revisit those as often, just have to marvel at how consistently good J is. Without a Sound might be my favorite from that era
I met my girlfriend and her cat was named Bug after the record and they’ve been my favorite band ever since
Tied To a Star is my fav of all his solo albums. I also love J Mascis and the Fog’s More Light a lot too (shame it’s not on Spotify). Pretty much all his output (including Dino Jr) been somewhere from good to incredible though, for a career as long as his he hasn’t really got many duds. I agree though Tied is probably the best place to start with his Solo.
I don't do social media anymore so didn't know you did this, pretty rad! Scrolled back through some of the old ones and (offtopic here but) just wanted to say I loved the DBT one, as well as your post about the south and its politics & culture.
